Buying rum in Nassau, what now?

Be aware, if it's Cuban rum you are looking for, it's becoming hard to find in ports. My friends who just got back from Jamaica found *one* bottle of Havana Club 3 all week, and we had to go to a local grocery store in Cozumel to find the Cuban rum I brought back. People are snapping it up as fast as they can while they can. Other friends who traveled to the ABCs over Christmas and New Years only found 4 bottles in all their travels.

I'd love to pick up some John Watlings in the Bahamas at some point, just to have something unavailable in the States for my fairly large rum collection.

John Watlings beuna Vista is one of the Bahamian rums we hope to track down, so keep fingers crossed for us haha. Sounds like we are on the path for a good souvenir if we do the leg work. Thank you!

We went to John Watlings in April. Buena Vista was one of the 2 rums we brought home from there. The process was easy; as we went through security getting back on the ship in Nassau, someone came out and wrote up a receipt for our rum, and took it into a back room. They told us exactly where alcohol pick up would be on the final morning. For us it was Wavebands (we were on the Wonder, pre dry dock). Pick up was easy. Went in with my receipt from the cruise people, and they handed me my bag that they had taped VERY securely shut. There were MANY bags there, so we were definitely not the only ones.

John Watlings is a bit of a hike from the port, but it was very worth it. Good variety, nice property, and very nice people working there.

Did you walk? Looks like it's about 3/4 of a mile or so there, but it's usually so darned hot in the Bahamas.

Yes we walked. It was quite muggy and you climb a decent sized hill, especially when you consider you're on an island in the Bahamas.

My favorite is Coco Mania from Falmouth... yum! I just ran out of my bottle :-(

We love Watlings and have to buy a couple bottles every time we go. You can get it in most of the shops as soon as you get off the ship and don't have to walk all the way to the distillery( but we did enjoy going there). We usually pick it up at a store called Bay Street Station, it's not too far from the Cariloha/ Del Sol shop (I wanna say it's across the street).

Awesome!!! We will have to look in to that brand too. We are doing Nassau by land and sea excursion, and they say it includes some rum tasting. Hopefully something unique. Thanks for the awesome input.

We walked to John Watlings to get rum from the Wonder last year. Very cool distillery. Awesome bar.

We bought two bottles of rum in Jamaica on our cruise in December which was nicely boxed up. As soon as we reboarded they directed me over to a table to check it in and gave me a receipt; took maybe 2 minutes. On debarkation morning there was a section set up near the exit to pick everything up. There was a pretty consistent lineup but it moved well with several CMs taking receipts so they've got the routine down quite well; took maybe 5 minutes. I went down to pick it up about an hour or so before breakfast so I wouldn't forget. There was still a continual lineup when we left after breakfast so you will definitely not be the only person buying alcohol in the ports. That's all I really wanted from Jamaica. We'd stayed there a few years ago and had this amazing rum which isn't available in Canada (relatively small distillery). We went into the large duty free at the port and managed to find it. It's now under lock and key at home so that it can be rationed over the next couple of years until we're able to find it again somewhere else or we make another trip or stop to Jamaica.

Not positive, but it may have been removed. I know the one on the Magic is gone.

I looked at the deck plans, where the duty free shop was is now Sea Treasures. But I think White Caps might have alcohol.

They've moved the duty free liquor around on the Magic to different locations at least twice that I'm aware of so maybe it was just relocated, not removed. I recall that on our Baltic cruise where the duty free liquor used to be they were selling Faberge-style eggs and matrushka dolls and the liquor was in one of the other stores. It may also be that there is no "store" per se but there may still be a list in the stateroom which you can order off.
