When you get into the system, DVC will assign you a guide. They are essentially salesmen but no-pressure ones. They will be there to answer questions (if you want to buy more points). You may hear from him/her, you may not.
That said, we actually like our guide, he calls and leaves us welcome messages when we go to WDW and he sends promotional e-mails and mail if there are deals they are offering.
I just closed on my first DVC contract (bought via resale) in March. A few weeks later, I got a call from my "guide."
Unless you plan to buy direct, you won't really have use for them. They can't help you with anything beyond selling you more points (despite the misleading name Disney uses for them).
Yes you will be assigned a sales person from Disney. You need to understand that they are paid to close sales. Some will contact prospects, others don't. Some play the friend game some don't.
Other than buying direct, there isn't any reason to contact them and you should know that some resent people who bought resale because affectively you took money out of their pocket. It's a business.
Our guide answers our questions - she doesn't offer or propose information but she does give us information honestly. She's a former nurse and if you've ever been either in the medical environment or around it you'll know what I mean. Hence I trust her and that goes a long way. I just have to remember to ask the correct questions and analyze the answer.
When I bought resale I wasn't assigned a guide. It was only a couple of years later when I was taking a tour of DVC that I actually got assigned a guide.
We've had several guides throughout the years, none of whom have been in contact with us, other than that their names are on any promotions we receive. This is fine with us as we can contact them if we need something (which we haven't for years).
