I'm debating buying a VWL resale rather than adding on @ AKV which is my current home resort. Is there any advantage to having the same UY as your current home resort? AKV is Sept but I'm looking at Dec UY VWL contract.
If they aren't the same use year, they will be completely separate memberships, meaning you can not mix points from the contracts for any one night during the 7 month window. Two different membership numbers, too. Two different banking windows.
You'd need to transfer points from one contract to another to combine for night at 7 mos or < or to have one 'seamless' (for lack of a better word) reservation at a resort @ 7 or <; either of these would use one transfer per year privilege for each contract.
Settle on a UY that best suits your vacation patterns. Having more than one UY is a PITA in my opinion. Twice the work to track and twice the chance of MS making a mistake.
We also opted for the same use year for our 2 home resorts for ease of managing points. But I can see that for some people who plan to use points from specific resorts at a specific time of year that it might be worth the extra planning. For example, if your plan is to always use your VWL points to go in December for holiday stuff at VWL, a December use year is ideal because it gives you lots of time to make alternate plans or bank the VWL points if you need to cancel your trip.
Good luck with your decision. Add-ons are a great joy!
