We are staying at All-Star Movies next year- Can you use refillable drink mugs from years past? I know they change the design, is that so you can't use the old ones? I think I have 1 or 2 mugs from ASMovies, year 2000 and I am considering buying 2 from eBay. Will these work? Also can you use All-star music mugs at ASMovies or sports or PopCentury?? Should I just buy new ones?

Oh boy....you better put your flame proof suit on for this question!! :p

No flames from me, but, mugs are good for the length of stay only, not forever.

Spend the 11.99 and get the mug.

I know saving money is a great idea, but after buying the mugs on ebay then paying for the shipping your probably at that number by then. Besides, they are probably scratched up etc..

Imagine if Disney had a part wear out on Splash Mountain. Would you want them to go on ebay and buy a used part?
I wouldnt. I would want them to use the best quality part they could find.

Trust me. Im cheap too, but that is going a little too far...

I don't get your analogy.....the part for Splash Mountain affects the safety of the ride....the mug doesn't :)

I would be concerned about the cleaniless of the mug... lots of germs out there... and as Nebsky said, with shipping cost, it is probably the same price as buying new at the resort..

also as summerrluvv said.. there are many people on the board that get very unset with the thought of people reusing their mugs...

:teeth:

There are many ways to save $$$ at Disney.. check out the budget boards lots of people have great ideas to help you save:earsboy:

The cleanliness? Do you eat out at all? You do realize those glasses, forks, plates and knives have all been used and washed don't you? LOL. I'm not concerned with the cleanliness of something I buy used, as it CAN be cleaned and sanitized.

A little OT, but I bought a used blender at a Garage Sale over the Summer. DH took mine when we separated, it was a nice $100 one, and well, I saw one for $3.00 at a Garage Sale, brought it home, ran it through the dishwasher and sanitized the base, and it's good as new :)

My thoughts behind it were spending the extra money to do something right.

It was just an analogy.
I realize the ride safety and mugs are not in the same category, but if Disney wanted to go cheap and do things half@ssed, they could compromise things.

Glad to have started such a lively discussion. Okay, the main question has been answered. Cups are only good for the length of stay.
I am an incurable cheapskate but I am not going to "steal" soft drinks from Disney.
Thanks for the info.

I think buying a used mug is a safety issue too. You have NO idea what went into that mug before you bought it! I can't believe someone could be that CHEAP, and yes I said it, to save a few bucks by getting them on Ebay. As far as stealing drinks, if you buy them from Ebay you are not buying them from Disney and are therefore a thief. It is bad enough that people reuse the mugs on other trips anyway but buying them from a totally different source to use them takes the cake.

I have no idea what you mean by this (underlined). What are you suggesting?

The same can be said the blankets sheets and pillows in your room at your resort. You don't know what the people before you did on those sheets or that mattress or pillows. You still use them right? Drinking from a mug (or glass) that was used by someone previous to you is not going to kill you if you clean the thing. Sheesh!

The mugs are only good for the length of your current stay in that resort. The signs are VERY CLEAR.

CM are (currently) allowing you to fill anything from old mugs, to 7-11 big gulp mugs to empty 2 liter soda bottles. If you want "free" soda don't bother with E-Bay just fill up whatever you want. If you're trying to be honest and follow rules buy new mugs, they make a very good souvenir.

I know you can sanitize glass and ceramic in the dishwasher. I'm not so sure about plastic mugs. I don't EVER remember any restaurant using a plastic mug that wasn't brand new.

Anything that goes in the dishwasher is sanatized. The water is VERY hot in a dishwasher. I can't believe people are questioning the "safety" of a used mug LOL!!!

Lots of casual restaurants use reusable plastic glasses and plates. Ever been to Pizza Hut.

I think you should just buy new mugs. They only cost about $10 bucks.

I'm sure you could clean them.....but they do make good sovenirs, I couldn't part with any of mine. I've heard of people buying them at Garage Sales, which is fine if you just want one. Besides it's embarassing using an old mug when everyone else has the new ones (for me at least!). We saw Planet Hollywood Kid's cups and sippy cups brought from home. One mom brought in 5 paper cups and used them..that in my opinion is stealing.

Buying a used mug could have a negative effect on your health, you don't know what germs could be there. I thought it a great analogy and I actually got it.

Good, Im glad someone did.

It had nothing to do with Safety..
