Buying Points

i dont recall, address, phone number, name, etc. not sure if they asked for the membership number. it was not confidential stuff like social security # or anything because I was on the call as well.

Are you going to need 50 extra points every year? If so, I’d just see about buying a 50 point contract at your home resort with the same use year. So much hassle than finding a transfer each year…..

What are they confirming?
I think the main reason for requiring both parties to be on the call now is to make sure the recipient understands the rule about only one transfer, in or out, per year. I recently received a transfer. They asked for basic info to confirm my account, then asked if I understood the transfer and wanted to proceed.

I received a points transfer recently in June 2021. I was conferenced in by the other owner once she got through to a CM. The CM asked to confirm my member number and account details such name, address, and phone. Nothing sensitive like social security number. The CM then reviewed the transfer information (resort, number of points, and use year) and transferred the points after the other owner and I both confirmed.

We are trying to figure out if it is cheaper to buy additional points from DVC or buy them as needed from a member.

They definitely cost more to rent no matter what. It just depends on if you want access to 50 a year. So we just paid shy of $28K (including closing and title) for 150 points at riviera. Over the 50 years we’ll have points there, our buy in equates to $560 per year. Dues for our points this year are roughly 1,200. So let’s round up to 2K. Divide that by 150 points are our 2021 cost per point is just over $13. The cheapest we’d probably get Riviera points on the rent trade board here is $16/$17, and that’s on the low end. Of course dues will go up, but so will rental prices.

So, if you want the 50 points yearly and can pay the money upfront, I say buy the points and save yourself the stress of renting them.
