Buying park tickets...now or later?

I still say that if Disney does go with tiered pricing anything like what they have proposed,
the tiered pricing at Universal Hollywood would be a reduction on certain days
Because Universal didn't raise their prices.
So whether or not Disney does tiered pricing is irrelevant. The concern is that they're just going to raise prices. Don't they raise prices every year? Doesn't Universal?

They've never raised prices to the extent that they were proposing from the chart. Even using the lowest priced chart of those seen, the price increase for top days would be $20 on top of the usual price increase, and the price increase for 2nd tier days would be $10 on top of the usual price increase

We're not talking "normal" price increases of $10 or $15. The price increase they're looking at is more or less astronomical, because they're not only raising prices but reducing the multi-day discount. Currently a 5 day pass is $315 (for adult, before taxes). Under new (estimated) pricing it would be $420 for bronze, $460 for silver and $500 for gold. Not many people are going to be okay with an almost $200 per person price increase. Sure, for a one day ticket it's only $10-20 increase, big deal. But most of the people going are buying multi-day passes - and it's going to hurt, and going to price a lot of people out of Disney, the complete opposite of what Walt's dream was. It's expensive enough now to pay $1230 US for a family of 4. But for that to jump to $2000?? Forget it. Many people will decide Disney's not worth it, or that their budgets can't do it.

Right, exactly. Their current greed is never what the company was supposed to become. Especially if there's no way to get the price down to a decent amount per day anymore

What would everyone do in the instance you have booked a room and dining package with no tickets. If I buy the tickets for undercover tourist and a deal comes up don't I need to book a package with tickets for free dining deals or stay play and dine?? Not sure what to do. I have the means to buy tickets now for a trip next dec just wasn't sure if I should or not. Does this make sense to anyone ?

We purchased ours under the then "old price" with a discount from Undercover Tourist just after Disney raised ticket prices. The discount brokers typically have the old tickets available for a short time after Disney raises the prices.

We did not have a trip planned but since the OP does;, it is best to buy the tickets now and not take any chances of getting caught with an increase. I doubt WDW tickets will be cheaper for the lower level days if they switch to tiered-ticket pricing and I think WDW would honor current tickets for any days of the year.

We bought ours March-2015 and gave some away as Christmas gifts and finally have a trip planned for May-2016 to use the ones we kept for ourselves.

Yes, you would need to purchase tickets as part of the package. Just my thought, though, is unless you never plan to go back to Disney again, go ahead and buy the tickets from UCT now and save them for when you need them. Whether that is this December because free dining isn't offered, or your trip in 2021 to see the opening of Star Wars land will be determined by what happens between now and then.

FWIW - I have no knowledge of when SWL will open, I was just pulling a random date.

Actually, if I remember correctly, the UCT physical tickets (not the digital emailed ticket) is refundable with a 5% restocking fee. Provided that it is a ticket that is still sold.

Your wife may still injure you if you say "it'll cost us $87.50 to return these tickets", but maybe the injury won't be life-threatening? ;-)

I have hit my fast pass window and still haven't bought my tickets. I can get Florida resident tickets and I am hoping for the discover Disney tickets that have historically been $20 or more cheaper per person on a 4 day ticket. for me, potentially saving $100 is worth the wait.
