Buying new camera anyone with Canon cameras?

I have the A520. It is a very versitle camera. I used it on the last trip and was very happy with the results. The only draw back is it can be a little slow between pictures. (hard to take rapid fire picts). But that is a common issue with cameras in this price range. It also does a great job on capturing short movie clips. All in all I love this camera.

I second this. I replaced my Olympus Camedia UZ700 with the Canon A520 and so far it is all I hoped it would be. I was looking for more megapixels and smaller size and I got both of those, in spades. It has a short "learning curve" too. I am pretty sure you will be happy with it.

well the timing of the 610 and the great reviews here and all over the web have me decided on the 520. I should get it this week and will let you know. I am feeling pretty confident right now about this decision. Thanks!!!

I just wanted to let you know that I was told today that the Canon A610 will be available the last week of September. However, that's during my trip, so I'm getting another A95 shipped to me tommorrow. The memory card for the 610 is different than the one for the 95, as Canon is changing to the smaller sd(?) card. I have 2 big and 2 small cards already, so staying with the A95 works for me. The great thing about these cameras is that they use 4 AA batteries and have a swivel screen and a viewfinder, which is great when it's sunny out. The 610 will have an even bigger screen than the 95.

I wish I could wait the extra week, but I'm just happy I'll have a great camera for my trip :earsboy: The next hope is that Rita doesn't effect my ability to get it tommorrow: :wizard: :wizard:

I recently purchased the Canon digital powershot S2. It hit the market the end of April and was designed for people who want the digital rebel without the $1000 price tag. THe S2 was $495 and has virtually no shutter lag. It's the best camera I have ever had. It even has fireworks setting

We also have the Canon S2 IS, the big zoom is a huge plus over the standard 3-4x zooms. You can probably pick up the older, S1 IS for just over $200 now too, I'd imagine. I don't think you can go wrong with any of the canon cameras.

I am looking for a digital that takes great night pictures as well as excellent day time. Easy to use with a good zoom would be a plus too. Has anyone used the fireworks setting on the Cannon S2. I have a 5mp Kodak now that is 2 years old. It is terrible at night but great during the day. Anything with lights in it comes out in a blurr. Very dissapointing when you are triying to get a good picture of the castle at night, spectromagic or a Christmas tree. Thanks

Well that serves me right for being impatient. i went and bought the 520 today. Have not had a chance to put it together as preparations for Rita are underway. Crossing my fingers that it is a good as I have heard.. Thanks!!

Night pictures are tricky because of the slow shutter speed. Try using your camera with a tripod and a 2 second timer. That way you're not touching the camera when the picture is taking and you're not causing any camera shake. Usually to get a higher optical zoom you sacrifice on the quality of the night shots because of the lens.

Yeah, you will have a hard time getting a sharp night picture without a tripod, regardless of the camera. Using a DSLR gives you a bit more control, with the higher ISO capabilities, but I wouls say a tripod is still recommended.

If you want to step up to SLR and stay digital, the Rebel is a nice camera.

All the pic in my signature were with the digital rebel.

For what it is worth I purchased an A20 a few years ago. We liked it so much that over the years my brother's family, my sister's family, and my parents have each purchased one the Powershot A20's next generations. Everyone has been really happy.

My A20 still works great. In one way, that is too bad because I cannot justify buying a new camera at this time! If I were to replace my A20, I think that I would go with the A520. If you need another review to look at here is one at my favorite digital camera sites - Steve's DigiCams:

Good luck.
