I am looking at either Canon A520 or A95 or SD400. Which is better in your opinion? Leaningtowards the A520.

I would love one with more than 4mp but want to stay in this price range.

How sharp are these cameras any information will be greatly appreciated.

I can't compare them for you, but I've bought 2 A95's (looking to have my 3rd replaced, and word has it, it's being discontinued by Cannon). The A95 takes beautiful, sharp pictures. Just keep it away from sippy cups if you have them! ;)

Canon makes the best digital cameras and Nikon makes the best film cameras.

We have a Canon Digital but I don't know the model. We've had it for about 3 or 4 years now. The camera is perfect! If I can get the model for you, I will.

the only problem i have with Canon is they have a lousy service policy...once it's over they refuse to even talk to you about it unless you pay $$ up front so even if it's a minor problem you pay through the nose to get it working. my flash wouldn't work..too bad, pay up or we wont' talk to you... finally took it to a local camera shop who fixed it for NOTHING. had the same problem with my canon printer( that never worked right and finally when the warrenty was over and each call cost me $40 i gave up)...so i don't buy canon no mo' :)

i do know a number of poeple who have Kodac easy share( think that's the right name) and love them...my daughter has a 4mp that takes great photos even up to 8x10 enlargments and target and walmart had them for around 200 or less

We also have a Canon Powershot? 4.0 megapixel...it takes crisp, sharp picture. We are very pleased with our 1st digital camera. :cool1:

Thanks for all the responses. I think I will definitely go with Canon. I have narrowed it down to the A520 or maybe the new A610 coming out. The price is right with the features I want. Big decision. Thanks for your input.

We have the Canon A95 and other than the slow shutter (slightly longer than other cameras but takes amazing photos!) we love it. I just find that no matter what I change and I have taken it to a camera shop, that is the way the A95 is.

I have the A510, which is 3.2 MP, and I think it's great. So 4 MP should be plenty. I haven't actually had my camera in a park yet, but it takes great pics.

We have the Canon Canon Powershot S2-IS.
It's impressive. It's also going on its first Disney trip in 12 days. :cool1:
I'd definitely recommend Canon based on our experience so far.

I'll second this one. We just sold our A70, and now my Rebel 35mm SLR is going on the used market too.. We bought the S2 IS. I'm SOO looking forward to using it. I can't wait to see how many 1000's of pictures :earseek: :earseek: :earseek: I come back with.

I have no doubt I'm going to shoot a couple hundred pictures a day. ;)

I think you'll be happy with canon no matter what model you choose.

We have a Canon A400 or something like that. It does take a nice picture, but the very slow shutter speed kills me. I've got a 2 year old and I've missed a lot of moments because by the time the thing takes the picture, the smile is already gone. It can be very frustrating. I can't ever get a good candid shot.

I have a canon S410 which is kind of comparable to (but older than) the SD300. I LOVE my camera! It's so small and easily fits into a pocket, and the SD300 or SD400 are even smaller! They also take awesome video clips (for a digital camera) and have a larger screen than my camera. I would HIGHLY recommend the SD300 or SD400. A 4MP camera (SD300) will print great pictures up to an 8X10, if you can't see yourself "blowing up" pictures larger than that i would save the money, not buy a 5MP and splurge on an extra battery (a necessity) and a HUGE memory card.

Canon has lots of cameras on sale at Office Depot today.

I have the Canon S70 and have loved it.

Manda, Minolta makes a couple of really great rapid fire digital cameras. You might want to check into one of them the next time you're in the market for a new digital.

For the OP, I just purchased a Casio Exilim Z750 7mp camera. I have two other digitals, but this time I wanted something small that I could throw in my pocket and go. I was torn between the Cannon SD500 and the Casio and eventually after reading many reviews I went with the Casio. It really is a great little camera and can't wait to take it with me to Disney next week.

I would recommend to go for a higher MP than a lower one, in the long run it's worth the few extra bucks to get a better resolution. The one I purchased I got from Dell during a sale, no shipping and 10% off, I paid a little under $400 for it.

Good luck!!

We have the Canon Powershot A85 which is 4.0 MP. We got it last December and have enjoyed it very much. It takes the most beautiful pictures although I must agree with the poster who disliked the slow shutter speed. I have an 18 month old DD and I know what she means about missing the shot. However, I must caution you to be extra careful when replacing the memory card. My husband tried to do this on 9/2, the night before we left for WDW. We wanted to be able to take more pictures than the one that came with the camera would allow. He took out the old one and the new one would not go in. He wasn't rough with it or anything. Apparently some little piece that the memory card attaches to broke off and we could not insert the new one. Now the camera has to be sent back for service and all of our pictures from our trip were taken with disposable cameras  .

DH has a Canon 20D not in the price range you are looking in, it is an excellent camera though. My Sister has a Canon also not sure which one but it takes really good pics too. I do have to agree with the person who commented on there service policy. Dh has spent tons of money on cameras and lenses from Canon. We also have a Canon Multipass All in one printer. We had some trouble with it and called to ask a question and the guy told DH he could not even talk to him until he payed. We had the printer for 13 months. So I do recommend the extended warranty if you can get one.

I too am looking into purchasing a canon. I wanted the A95 because after loads of research I found out a lot of good things about it. I have now decided that I will purchase the A610. It is replacing the A95 as of 10/10/05 and so they will not be making any a95's for a few months so that the 610 and 620 sell.

Does that mean that it wont be available until 10-10? I will need to buy it before. May have to go with A520. Anyone have any problems or disappointments with the 520?

I have the A520. It is a very versitle camera. I used it on the last trip and was very happy with the results. The only draw back is it can be a little slow between pictures. (hard to take rapid fire picts). But that is a common issue with cameras in this price range. It also does a great job on capturing short movie clips. All in all I love this camera.
