Any suggestions on what brand and how much to spend?

I really want to cook the meats and pot roasts with the gravy.

Please need tips on sizes and $$. I have never used a crock pot since I'm a working mom the whole idea of leaving it all day to cook really scares me. What if it sticks and my house burns?

Rival is a great one. I've had it for over 23 years and it's still good as new.

Make sure you get one with the removal insert. I have the large round one.

I work and simply put it on a cutting board on top of the stove. I had the worries the first time I used it, but just used it the first time on a weekend when I was home. I would suggest doing the same thing. That way you can put your mind at ease that it's quite safe when you aren't home.

I agree with Quilt Teddy....the pull out crock is a must!!! so easy to clean.

I also got the biggest one...just more convenient.

have fun!!!!! You will love it!

It is so great to come home and have your home smelling wonderful and something good to eat!

This time of year is a good time to get an appliance like that as you should be able to find a good price or a bonus buy. Do you have an idea of what size you need? I spent most of my life with a regular-sized, 4 quart crock pot. The stone liner did not come out. Then, someone gave me a gift of a pot with the stone liner that does come out for washing. What a big difference! As my kids got older, I got an oval 6 quart crock pot with a removeable stone liner. It holds alot of food! When I first got it, there was so much food that one cooking made two meals for us. But the boys are teens now and there are no leftovers.

I think Rival may be the first or oldest crock pot manufacturer and I think most people buy that brand. All of my crock pots are that brand and they are all still working and a couple of them are more than 15 years old. But, I think the brand you purchase may depend upon the type that appeals to you and your use.

I would use the internet to check out prices and types and then you will have an idea of what you would spend and the uses. I looked at Walmart and they show a few:

http://www.walmart.com/catalog/prod...6:4829&adid=1500000000000001657580&dest=55506

I compare prices and types of everything before I buy. Once you have a certain type and price in your mind, then you are armed for the Holiday sales!! ::yes::

Thank you checked out walmart ....

I liked the sleek look of the metal/aluminum one rival 6qt. Not bad on the price. I thougt the pot would cost $100+

I will be doing the cooking on the stove and my first try will be on the weekend!

:sunny:

.....AND, no matter what model you decide works for you, you will love the ease of use with a crock pot. They can make the toughest piece of meat fork tender! I love crock pot cooking!! ;)

A really GREAT cookbook on crock pot recipes is Fix-It and Forget-It. A bunch of the recipes I post on this board comes from it.

Have FUN!!!

Hello Everyone:

Got my crock pot Friday night!

On Saturday made the stew receipe that has the gravy MMMMM!(receipe came with the cookbook inside)

My hubby and I were very skeptical! It turned out great.

The veggies were deliciously cooked and the gravy and meat were delicious.

KEEP THE CROCK POT RECEIPES COMING!

We are a working family leave the house early and return after 6:30p... It is nice to come home to some good food. I just whip up rice or noodels and good eats!!::yes::

Rival 6qt with the timer!!

OHHHHH, lucky you, you have the timer on it. Mine is 23 years old, so they didn't make 'em with the timer "back in the olden days". Enjoy and happy cooking!

:p

Congrats! I love my crockpot & have been using one since I was first married nearly 30 yrs ago. I was using a Rival oval, but DH dropped his rechargable screwdriver on it & broke the crock. Until I get it replaced, I'm using one that's even older. I really miss having 2 though.

I had bookmarked a crockpot thread some time ago. I'm sure you will find some good recipes there.

I'll check back with some others later. :teeth:

Hummmm....very strange, I went to that thread to mark it and it tells me I'm not logged in, even though I am.

I don't know what's up with that - it works for me. If you do a search on Crock Pot Crazy you should get it. There were 7 pages of responses.

Sorry.

I sign in every morning..but everytime I attempt to answer a 'poll' thread..it tells me I am not logged in...usually I just click on any post..and go to post reply..then sign in..then go back to original page and refresh..then am signed in for the entire day..crockpot thread worked fine for me..and I have used a LOT of recipes off it..thanks for bringing up the subject again!..wintertime is crockpot time in this house!

Here's my favorite

Spray crockpot with No-Stick or Pam

thawed boneless chicken breasts
half a bottle of salsa
a little water- just guess on the amount

Turn on low for the whole day Yummy!

My wedding gift Rival crockpot finally went after 20 years:D I got a new larger Rival with an oval shaped removable black liner. I've been cooking roast chicken in it at least once a week- it's large enough for an 8 lb. roaster. I put balls of aluminum foil under the chicken, then sprinkle Mrs. Dash, cajun seasoning, and rotisserie chicken seasoning on it. I probably use my crockpot 3 times a week:D
