Buying MP3s

So Apple has a new deal where you can buy mp3s online for 99¢ at their music store.

Now I think this is a great thing for those that completely shun Kazaa. I do use it, but I think most of us know that the harder to find tracks are really a crapshoot (meanwhile something like nsync stuff is probably all over the place on there) & getting anything over 128kbps is almost impossible. Finding Face To Face's cover of Bad Reputation has been impossible to find.

I'll pay a buck to get a hard to find or import song if it means that I'm supporting a good band & even more because it aggrivates the RIAA.

Has anyone heard whether hard to find tracks are available?

What do you guys think about this?

For 99¢ I would do it. I know what you mean about the hard to find stuff. I found Napster only a couple of months before it went bye-bye, and only had time to get about a Gb worth of tunes. I have yet to be able to get the same kind of stuff off kazaa. I actually gave up on kazaa a long time ago.

Well,

1 - You have to have a MAC to be able to use this service. I don't know anybody in the real world uses MACs anymore. ;)

2 - It puts it into a 'library'. It makes me wonder if you can burn your own CD's and such.

3 - No sharing - it's a new format. My guess it's keyed to your listening device(s), IMHO.

I like it - if I could buy mp3's for 99 cents, I think I'd do it. But not like that, it's kinda restrictive...

1- You know better than that. ;)

2- the library does store it on the HD & you can save through data CDs.

3- I'll check more into the AAC format & how maleable it is.

Here's what I've got so far:

Windows version is coming some time later this year.

They've got all the major labels on board & 200,000 tracks so far.

It allows unlimited CD burns.

AAC gives the quality of a 320 mp3 at the size of a 128 mp3.

I'll have more when I find out...

Buying mp3's is like buying water: Sure it can be the best thing to do but, sticking your head in a stream and getting a drink is alot easier and cheaper.

I'm sure the Windows Version will be more user friendly. ;)

Can you burn audio CD's? That would be a more likely use that I would have for buying MP3's like this.

Are the AAC's still keyed to your machine though? I would think people would still share AAC files also.

Yeah, but lately, IMHO, that 'stream' has been more like trying to stick your head in ocean and Finding Nemo (hehehehe). Like BigD said - you can find 500 copies of NSync, but if you're looking for Funhouse by Flim and the BB's, how long would it take you to find it? You may find it right away, but more likely it would take you a lot of work to find a valid file.

I'd be interested to see how MP3's and AAC files will co-exist on your system. Will WinAmp, etc be upgraded?

Bigd, thanks for the heads up on this one!

I'm a top 40 listener so I can find everything I want at good quality
