Buying kids clothes a year ahead on clearance?

I did that for next summer. My dd is 13 months now. So I bought 24 mos and 2T items. Another thing I do is buy ebay. That is a great affordable way to purchase clothes. I got a lot of clothes (about 40 items) for $40. Then I buy a couple of retail items around those.

Buy it!!! :thumbsup2 I did this all the time for my first dd and I still do it. Luckily, she wears pretty close to size (although NOTHING fits her in the waist...she's a little on the tiny side) but belts come in handy as well as a decent seamstress Great Grandma! ;) Now, my second dd is a different story. She's a giant compared to her sister. (9lbs at birth and now at 10 months is in the 98th percentile for height!) Luckily, she can fit into the clothes her sister wore when she was 3.... Anyway, buy it and if it doesn't fit....there's always Ebay! :thumbsup2

And CONGRATULATIONS on the babes! :goodvibes

Like others have mentioned....each baby is different. Buying ahead never worked for either of my 2 kids. My dad tried a couple of times to buy ahead for my kids (trying to be nice!).....bought a 12-month shorts outfit for DS, thinking he'd wear it the following summer (he was born in March). Well, DS wore that outfit for his 6-month pictures! Dear dad tried the same thing for my DD.....another 12-month outfit, this time long pants (she was born in April, dad thought he'd learned from the previous attempt! lol). Well, DD only wore that outfit a couple of times because most days that she fit it in (at 6 months old) were too hot for long pants! That was the last time anyone tried to buy ahead for either of my kids....just wasn't feasible as 1. they have always been big for their ages, and 2. it's thus impossible to guess what sizes they will be wearing even 6 months from now!:confused3 (Just a little FYI, DS is now 9 years old and wears size 14...with men's size 9 shoes! And DD is now 5 years old and wears size 7....with shoe size 2 (she completely skipped over size 1 during the summer....went from a 13 this spring to a 2 when I bought shoes for school). I just look for really good sales at Walmart and Target as they outgrow their clothes. :thumbsup2

congrat's on the twins:cool1: ..i have twin granddaughter's and they were preemie { 3 lbs 7 oz each } but caught up in size by their 1st b'day and we always get them the next size up when shopping clearance at the end of a season, gracie is aninch taller and 2 ponds heavier but that doesn't make a big difference in the cloths and dd doesn't dreas them alike all the time which helps get more bang for our thrify buck.... another way to save on kids clothes { we have 7 grands ages 5 and under and hand-me-downs are wonderful } but we also catch every kids consignment sale in the fall and spring. really nice things at great prices...and if they don't fit soemone now they will the next season:woohoo:

Clothes are so hard to buy ahead. I've tried it before and ended up wasting money. This is especially true when their infants and the clothes fit for only 1season. If you've bought 12 mo winter clothes and its turns out they're at 12 mos and its warm out you've bought clothes you will never use.

Even when they're older its hard but that is primarily due to sizing differences, even within brands. My dd9 went to school this morning wearing a size 8 shirt from Sears, a size 6x sweater from Land's End, and a size 4/5 scooter from Target. I never buy ahead anymore.

I tried doing that with my 4 month old son. I bought 12 and 18 month stuff for next summer when it was on clearance back in June. Unfortunately, my 4 month old is in 12 month clothes already (depending on the brand), so I'm pretty sure the 18mo shorts won't help me:) I'll save them for the next child.....

I have always done this for my daughter and it has been wonderful. She will be 5 years old this week. The few times I have "guessed wrong" I just put them aside and somebody you know always ends up having a birthday, and if not then I end up giving it to charity and making some child who usually gets used items very happy. I figure with what I have saved it pays off in the long run. So go for it. If the bathing suit is cheap enough I would buy one of 12m and one 18m for each of them

It works out very well, for some things anyway. I'd say, depending on how your babies run about now -- and how "long" summer is for you (I'm in SC and we wear summer clothes from April clear through October). If your summer-clothes-wearing months are many, you'll be able to get some 18month sized clothes and what doesn't fit at the beginning of the summer should at least come close by the middle-end.

I wouldn't go ALL OUT at this stage, but if you find some bargains, by all means go for it. Some things work out better for this than others. My kids are both on the skinny side. I don't normally buy pants for them a year out (unless it's an incredible bargain and I find it worth the risk) because by the time they fit in the waist, they might be out of season or too short. But shirts and dresses, I have NO problem buying those ahead.

Good luck - I also love re-sale shopping. I LOVE bargain hunting. Goodwill is my friend!

1 thing I've learned is YOU CAN NOT go by size my mom even bought a pair of size 10 pants took them home laid them out an cut out a new pair of size 14 pants out of them lol

Yard sales has been my best friend going to them and having them Last year I lucked out a mile from my house an bought 7 big huge boxes of boys clothing rangeing from size 9 month up to size 5 for 30.00 If the older gson doesn't wear them the younger one prolly will. If not we'll yard sale them back out.

In my area there is a group called MOTHERS OF TWINS they do a yard sale or 2 every summer to help other moms of twins find yard sale clothing for their twins it's GREAT I went to it a couple times even tho I didn't have twins some outfits I didn't mind if DD had 2 of or sometimes there would be a size difference between the outfits she wore pants to one an shirt to other etc. so it all worked out.

YOu might ask around about if anyone does that sale in your area if no it might be to your benefit to start it:)
