I need a new pair of glasses. The eye doctor I go to has a very small selection so I'd like to see what Lens Crafters or even WalMart has to offer. Has anyone had any experience with either one of these places?

I used Walmart awhile back and they had a nice sized selection.

If you are trying to find cheap (or free just pay shipping) look up coastal contacts website or coastal should work too.

A few friends have gotten their glasses from them. It is hard to see exactly what they will look like on you since you are buying them on-line, but they are perfect for a back-up pair. If you like them on Facebook they come out with codes for free glasses. On average people were paying $20 for brand new glasses.

I've used Sam's Club (you don't need a membership) and the prices and selection were pretty good.

My DD's have both ordered from zennioptical.com and love the glasses. They are super cheap! I think that you can upload a picture of yourself there and "try on" the glasses.

Go to coastalcontacts.com....I just got 2 presecription glasses for my son with delivery for $37. They have loads of specials. And if you "like" them on FB, they are constantly giving away free glasses. My son loves his 2 new glasses and they are trendy.

I had bad experiences with Walmart the last 2 times I tried to use them. But I've had excellent experiences - 4-5 orders worth - ordering online from Zenni.com :thumbsup2 Both DH & I have "heavy" prescriptions, and even with the upcharge for the lenses we need, I can easily get 2 pair of glasses for less than I could get a single pair from Walmart. I currently have 4 pair in my prescription.... two are regular glasses, two are used as sunglasses (just dark tinted lenses). Just make sure you get your pupil distance measured from your optician and the rest of the numbers on right on your prescription.

:goodvibes

My mother has to try on glasses. No online ordernig for her. She just purchased 3 pairs of glasses. She got one pair of no-line bifocals, one pair of single vision, and a pair of no-line sunglasses at JCPennys for $235. I am certain they could be had cheaper online, but I didn't think this was too bad for a brick and mortar.

I have used both Lens Crafters and Wal-Mart. Recently we got two pairs of glasses from zennioptical.com since our neighbor strongly recommended this site to us. This site has a selection of more than 3000 pairs of glasses. And you can use their frame fit system to try on the glasses. Most important, their prices are very affordable. As for the quality of glasses, the two pairs we received were perfect.

DH just used Lens Crafters for the first time. He has a very tricky prescription for one eye. The Lens Crafters we went to had to send his glasses out to be done in another city, and it still took them about three weeks to complete the work. Other than that, he found the atmosphere in the shop unpleasant. Think we will be going back to the optician for his next pair of glasses.

Lens Crafters is pretty pricey.

Wal-Mart is a lot less expensive. I have gotten my glasses at Wal-Mart for about 10 years and have been very pleased with them. They usually have a good deal on frames, lenses or some combo. There's often a BOGO free sale that goes on, so you can get a pair of prescription sun glasses or second pair of glasses. No matter what you do, be sure to get the insurance...it's good for two years and you can get new lenses if yours get scratched or new frames if yours get bent or broken. I always end up breaking my frames at some point during the two years, and the lenses get scratched at some poing. My two years expires next month, and I'm on my second set of lenses and my third set of frames, and the replacements were FREE (now the needing new frames and lenses is MY fault, not the fault of them not being 'good', just so you realize that). Also I'm in Wal-Mart regularly anyway, so it's very easy to pop in and get the frames adjusted if needed, have a screw tightened or whatever.

we've used Lenscrafters many times and have had no problems. My Rx can be tricky and sometimes that takes a few days. Their return policy is great too. Recently bought Rx rec specs for my dd. She decided she didn't want them a few days later. No problem with a full refund.

Thanks for the input everyone. I decided to go with my optician because my insurance doesn't cover much of anything when you go outside of their network.
