Buying First Car

We have a Matrix and really love it. I'd recommend it too. It has the same engine as a Corolla---but they cost a bit more. The hatchback feature is very convenient and looks sportier than the Corolla.

We bought our car online at carsdirect.com and we loved the no hassle process. They delivered the car to our home, fedexed the papers to our home and the person who delivered the car took the docs with her. Couple of reasons we did it that way was, our old car couldn't make it all the way to the dealerships, we have 3 kids who would make going to the dealership very unpleasant and lastly we just didn't want to deal with the haggling. The price we got was comparable to prices other people paid by going to the dealership. Doesn't hurt to check the website.

Another idea is to go to Carmax. They might not be the absolute lowest rate you could get by good haggling, but the point is you don't have to haggle!!! MY SO has bought his last 2 vehicles through them, and his mother has also purchased a vehicle through them. We are currently looking at purchasing 1 or 2 more vehicles within the next 6 months (we need a truck- we have 2 very small Nissan sports cars now and are looking at a Nissan Frontier, and I really like the new Scion TC). Carmax isn't just for used cars, they have agreements with a few dealorships to offer new cars. Also you don't have to choose what is on the lot at the Carmax you go to, because most (not all) of their cars are transferable, and depending on where you are you pay a certain rate to transfer the vehicle you want to you and part of the transfer fee is applied to the vehicle if you purchase it. You also don't need a man with you, the salespeople are not commission hungry scum (I can say that because I work commission-although not autos ).
