Hello all! My hubby and I are going to buy DVC. I can’t find how many studios are at each resort. We would only ever get a studio room. I’ve heard it’s hard to get AKL value studios. (The ones for 8 points.)
So what do you guys think about securing studios at 11 and 7 months? We are up in the air as to which one we want. This is just another factor.
TIA

This post has a breakdown of the number of studios and villas at each resort.

Buy where you want to stay, or at the very least, where you don’t mind staying. Booking studios at 11 months is difficult at some resorts. It has been getting increasingly difficult to book them everywhere at 7 months. There’s a very good breakdown of studio availability in this thread:

If studios is what you want, pick a resort that you would be happy being at if trading out at 7 months is tough.

If you decide on AKL, the plan for at least a standard view. This way if you can’t get value, you are okay.

It will all depend on when you are going and how flexible you are with dates. I have stayed in studios and so far, with my SSR points, this is what I I have stayed or booked at the 7 month..or less..at SSR in July, VGF in August, BLT in Dec, Poly in January, CCV end of March.

Now, the Dec trip took some time as it was a change made 3 months out and the others I got for the most part at 7 months with a little of patience and stalking.

The key is we are seeing things tighten up a lot of the time with studios, especially at resorts closer to parks, so booking at 11 months, even if you are not 100% positive is important.

Good luck!

Just a heads up OKW has two queen beds in the studios. All the rest have a queen bed and a sofa bed of some kind. SSR is in a refurb and getting the Murphy style sofa bed, compared to the fold out sofa bed all other resorts have.

I would chose OKW for a few of reasons, they have the largest studios of all the DVC resorts, two full size beds, and the resort feels more like a vacation home than a hotel with the outside covered entrances to your room.

Yes, it is VERY hard to get value studios. Don't buy with a plan to stay only in value studios. There are far too few of them and they book the morning of the 11 month window or before with a longer stay. Securing standard and savannah view is relatively easy at AKL at 11 and even 7 mo. most of the year (race weekends and some other exceptions occur and cause 7 mo. issues).

SSR is also getting a murphy bed (single: short adult or kid size) in the one bedroom living/dining area as well.

Buy enough points to get a one bedroom from time to time. Otherwise, if you can't get a studio, you will just be disappointed.

I had that problem.....fed heavily into my add-on-itis! On the other hand, I'm not sorry about what I purchased and when. I bought what I could afford, and when I could afford more, I bought other contracts.

I would add BLT to your list as the purchase price, annual dues, longer RTU, and location are excellent

AKV values and even BLT standard book at the 11 month window

SSR is also a good value

I would NOT buy OKW as it has at least 13 years less use until RTU expires and it is relatively easy to book studios at the 7 month window (also has two beds)

Resale only right, with the 2042 date? Direct could still be a good buy with the extended contract and selling later on?

Yes, technically correct. But the resale price is sooooooo much looooower than from Disney, it would be hard to justify OKW direct from Disney.

Again - my personal opinion is to buy resale at BLT or SSR as the best bang for the buck.
