Our home resort is SSR. We prefer to stay in the Epcot area so our first choice for our trips is of course BCV or BWV. Now that we can buy at DRR I’m wondering what would happen if we purchase points there and that becomes our “choice” resort what can we do with our SSR points if we end up not using them?
Are they hard points to rent through places such as The Timeshare Store?
I hope I made sense with this question, it all makes sense in my head

I've had no problem renting my spare SSR points from time to time. I put them up for rent at the end of the year, ready for the 7 months windows for the late spring/summer. Availability at that point is plentiful at 7 months and I've been able to book BCV or BWV for my renters. It's a good deal for both of us, I get a bit more than from brokers and they book desirable resorts without the premium.
However be warned that the rental market is very good at the moment but it's not guaranteed. A recession might decrease the number of people willing to rent and increase the number of owners who want to rent out, making rates crash.
Selling the contract is not a bad idea either if you're sure you will not use it, prices are at all time high at the moment for SSR.

If the rental market remains strong then it is a good option for helping to off set your maintenance fees while keeping that contract in case you need more points.

That is what i am essentially doing with purchasing a resale PVB contract - I am keeping our AK because it gives us the perks and when we need more points we have them instead of having to transfer or buy those expensive OTU points.
