Buying Disney pins on ebay

20 pins from ebay lasted us 2 days last trip... DH is obsessed.

For our upcoming trip we bought the 100 pins for 60$... if you'd like the name of the seller, feel free to PM me.

There were 3 fake pins in the lot of 100, and when I pointed it out to the seller they sent me 10 authentic ones as an apology. I'm pretty hardcore about checking every tiny detail to make sure they are 100% authentic.

At the outlet on Vineland today there were some $2 marathon pins - in the marathon section, not the pin section (which has moved).

a good seller in the US is bigmomma she is a cast member (supposedly) from disney california and she averages around a $1 a pin with good postage... her pins are quite nice usually and their perfect for trading never had a bad bunch... some sellers will sell pins and they get damaged or scratched during postage bigmomma usually puts hers in a bubble wrap bag and each pin is in a small pocket bag so they dont scratch the surfaces as easy... will usually get at least 1 limited edition pin in her lots too.

Thank you! Way too many people just don't care, the mentality is "As long as MY family has fun.......". The good part is Disney IS starting to crack down on taking scrapper pins, the CMs no longer HAVE to trade with you if they suspect the pin is fake. Granted there are some CMs that don't care but there are lots that collect pins in their down time.

Let it go. The same people who don't care are the ones who will buy knock off bags and pirated music.

I'm sorry, but did you actually have anything to add to this thread? That comment was totally inappropriate.

For the record, I have never purchased a knock off bag OR pirated music. But thanks for your ignorance.

It's people like you, who insult others and make awful assumptions, who live an unhappier life than those of us who don't hold such grudges. :headache:

If you wanted to nicely say something that would be fine - but you wanted to just insult people.

Lol, my life is quite happy knowing I am not trying to rip someone else off to make my kid happy. But thanks for caring.

Someone pays for it. The company, the workers, and in general society when people steal. And I do assume that people who choose to steal from one person will steal from another. Character tells.

Since you have no purpose for posting in this thread other than to insult people you should probably get a life and move on.

Thanks for caring, and have a magical day!

DS wants a Star Wars lanyard but we will not be going to DHS until the end of our trip. Is the SW merchandise sold at other parks? Also, how much do lanyards cost?

Just purchased 3 7-pin new in box sets from themuchnessofdisney on eBay for $15.95 each, free shipping - so $2.28 per pin. I haven't ordered from him/her/them before, but a 3095 100% positive rating seems like a safe enough bet.

As long as its letting the kids have their fun, I don’t want to stress too much over scrappers or authentic ones. Everyone that they’ve got in return is also more or less the same. They all (the ebay ones) look genuine to me.

You're missing the point. If you buy an item at 10 to 5 percent of the actual cost, even though it may "look" the same, it isn't, it's fake. There's an entire industry making fake products, from DVDs to purses, from watches to t-shirts, literally everything you can think of. The makers of these items can sell at such a low cost because they have no overhead. They pay for third rate materials and shoddy workmanship, knowing that there are enough people out there that want the real products but can't or choose not to pay the price of "genuine" ones.

Now to make matters worse, you're trading something fake for something real. "As long as the kids have fun" is not an excuse for passing off these fakes as genuine, especially when trading with others. If your kids were into baseball cards, would you be okay photocopying baseball cards and having your kids trade them with other people for real ones?

If you can't afford real, genuine products, then you shouldn't be buying them. that goes for Disney pins, Gucci watches or 99 cent DVDs.

So far i have found 3 really reliable sellers on Ebay to buy pins. Funmamas is fantastic and so is disneytradingpins and bizzybee1. As i'm from the UK, I find it hard to find cheap shipping but these 3 are very reasonable. It was great that they can deliver to the hotel i was staying at so I didn't have to worry about packing them in my case.

On my last trip, every time I bought a pin I would by one of the cheap mystery pins so that I could trade for another that I wanted. It worked out great.

I also got a fake pin from a CM but I didn't realize it until I got back to my room. It was Jafar holding a book. I noticed the word "LAMP" was misspelled "LANP". A quick check on the internet confirmed it was a fake. Later in the trip, I spotted a CM with a genuine version of the same pin. I explained that I had received a fake and she gladly traded me for the real deal.

I think for my next trip I'll try getting a lot from Ebay for some trade bait.

When you buy pin lots from EBay, they are usually "authentic" pins---else the seller's ebay feedback would plummet. But, there is pretty much only one way that the seller can offer them for $1-$2 per pin without going broke: by buying bulk lots of scrapper pins even more cheaply, trading with Cast Members in the parks to get "real" ones, and then selling those to you at what is probably a modest profit, but also probably a pretty low per-hour wage.

I suppose that it is also possible that authentic pins get surplussed in bulk, but it doesn't seem likely that Disney manages their inventory that poorly on a consistent basis.

So, whether the pins you get are scrappers or not, you have to assume that the "source" for your pins ultimately were scrap. You have to decide for yourself whether this is a business model you wish to support or not. I confess that I have purchased a few of these lots from ebay, for casual trading in the parks. This is not my worst sin, but it is also not something I will claim is "right".

Exactly 100% on target. And anyone who will deliver cheap trader pins to your hotel room is running a scam on a grand scale.

I've bought some pins on Ebay, ones that are not available anymore etc. it was nice because if you bid on 3 pins and win then you can get free shipping. But you have to buy the 3 pins within 14 days.

So, what is a person to do? No way am I paying $7-$10 per pin and risk my DD trading them with a CM for a scrapper! And even after looking at PinPics and comparing some of the traders we had left over from our last trip, I can't tell with any certainty whether they are or are not "scrappers" - even if a pin has known scrappers in existence, there are still legitimate pins of that design available too.

This is the whole reason that I won't let DD12 trade pins anymore. :headache: I only buy my pins from Disney and was not going to chance her trading with a CM and getting some crappy $1 pin in return. As much as she loved doing it I'm not going to take a huge loss on pins because I choose to buy real one.

"not letting your kid trade pins" is sad.

Talk about taking away the magic! Pin trading is supposed to be FUN. Being at Disney is supposed to be FUN. You're taking away fun from your kid because you want to be a pin snob?

Our family has a rule that we don't trade with CM's after the first 45 minutes after park opening. The scammers tend to hit RD and trade out as many scrappers as possible while people are doing the FP dash.

Not sure how this would make a difference? Most of the time the cast members just grab the same lanyard they had the last time they worked. It's not like they take it off at the end of the shift and somebody backstage goes through them to get rid of suspect pins (most cms don't even know the difference). They may get a new pin if they are missing one or realized they got a bad pin and swapped it out themselves but chances are that CM you are trading with at RD is using the same pins they picked up all day the day before.

It is sad we have to be called "pin snobs" by those knowingly doing the wrong thing. Then again it's most likely the same type that thinks the mug thing is ok, or pool hopping, or parking at the resort etc, as long as THEIR family benefits from it it's all good.
For those not caring about real vs. fake, I have an authentic limited edition Dooney and Burke (reproduction) I'd love to sell you. I mean, it's the same thing right?
