Hi all,
I know that at the buffet restaurants and dinner shows I will have to pay adult prices (or use adult TS credits) for my 2 older children who are disney adults. Are there any of the other restaurants where I won't be able to pay OOP for them to have a childs meal and save their adult credits?

I'm not planning on doing this at every meal but it would be handy to know if there are any places where it wouldn't be an option.

Thanks again for your help.

Jo

Generally it used to only be the buffets and all you can eat restaurants where you were restricted. I am not sure if this has changed in the last year or so. I recall Le Cellier being difficult about ordering off the kids menu for adults, but reports of this were erratic. It's probably best to refine the list of places you have in mind and see if anyone has personal experience with those specific places.

My daughter who is now 13 and was on her last trip frequently orders off the child menu. Last trip when we weren't on the DDP I also did this a couple of times. No one said anything. I do always tip as if we paid adult prices and tell them I will be doing so when I order. We are on the DDP next trip and I am sure she will do this again. As we have 15 credits each and 17 meals worth of credits booked I will be paying out of pocket for her children's meals. There is no rule to stop this as far as O can see. Actually Disney win financially as she will also order primarily children's QS meals where I will just tell them to use her adult credit. The portions are just too big for her on the adult meals often. At the buffets she will eat about $5 worth of food for her adult credit, including her drink....!

Thank for that. It's good to know that nobody questions it. Luckily my older two girls are quite good eaters (youngest is a different story!) so I think they will get their moneys worth out of the buffets. There are definitely some meals where they will want the adult options and I'm not going to force them to choose a child's meal if they don't want to.

The meals we have planned are
Crystal Palace
Akershus
Sci fi dine in
O'hana
Hoop dee doo
Yachtsman Steakhouse
Yak and Yeti
1900 Park Fayre
CRT
Chefs des France
Hollywood and Vine
Saana
Be our Guest

I know I will have to pay for them as adults at Crystal Palace, Akershus, Hoop dee doo, 1900 Park Fayre and Hollywood and Vine. I'm thinking that probably O'hana too as that is family style and not sure about CRT as that says prix fixe?

All of these you will need to use adult credits as they are done on age as they are fixed price restaurants:
Crystal Palace
Akershus
O'hana
Hoop dee doo
1900 Park Fayre
CRT
Hollywood and Vine

Which leaves any of the other meals where she can have a childs meal and you can pay OOP to save her credits. The other option is if they don't want kids meals then pay for some of the cheaper meals OOP like Sci-Fi

When using an adult credit for a kids counter service meal, you will still be allowed to order the adult dessert. If the portions are too small (Disney kids meals are fairly small), most places will serve a larger portion of the kids meal if you tell them you are redeeming an adult credit for a kids meal. You may find that your daughter needs just a little more than the child seeing, albeit much less than the full sized adult portions.

and some adult might even be hungry enough for the leftovers from the adult portion she ordered :p

Thanks for confirming what I thought. :goodvibes From looking at the menus I think both my disney adults would prefer to have a children's meal at the yachtsman steakhouse which should save me 4 adult credits to put towards one extra meal. They will definitely both want adult meals at saana and yak and yeti and so will my disney child so we plan on sharing 4 adult meals between the 5 of us at each. One of my disney adults will also want an adult meal at chefs de France (I've had to book for lunch as quiche is on the lunch menu but not the dinner menu!!) so it's looking like if I keep all the bookings I will need to pay for one meal out of pocket. I will have to have a think about which one. I know Sci fi would be the cheapest but it is right at the beginning of our trip and it would seem a waste to pay if something then happened later on and we ended up with credits left. :scratchin

Thanks both of you. :goodvibes I imagine for counter service they will order adult meals most of the time but it's good to know that we can get a larger portion of a kids meal if we want it and can also get an adult dessert. :) I'm expecting that at least some of the time we will order 3/4 meals between the 5 of us to share but we'll see how things go when we are actually there.

I would always use credits first and pay later. Also I know the signature meals such as YS look expensive sometimes the value of the 2 credits can be less than pay for 2 other meals OOP as they are generally not double the price.

What did you think your girls would eat of the kids menu at YS out of interest? I have a steak lover so if she could she would love an adult steak but she is 7 so on the kids menu still!

Thanks I'm thinking using the credits first is the best idea. BOG is our last meal and that is quite expensive, so I think I will see how we are going and possibly pay OOP for Saana or breakfast at Hollywood and Vine which are the two meals before (if necessary).

To be honest I hadn't really looked at the children's menu at yachtsman, I just didn't really see anything I thought they would really want on the adult menu. They will happily eat almost anything with rice or pasta but aren't great lovers of big chunks of meat.
