Buying Direct

Don't worry, you can always get those points as long as you choose a use year after the current month. So if you buy in April 2017 and choose a June UY, you will get both 2016 and 2017 points. If you buy in April 2017 but choose Feb UY, you just get 2017. The guide is not offering any special deal, just trying to pressure you into buying sooner.

Thanks!! I knew already that we wouldn't be buying up front. It is way too large a purchase for us to make on the fly. I appreciate you telling me this. There is soo much for us to learn before we buy. I am leaning towards holding out for VWL and also buying in to BCV as well.

Either the existing VWL or BCV are best bought resale. If you're holding out for Copper Creek, that'll be direct only for a while.

heck -- if you purchase anytime between now and Nov. 30th with a DEC UY, you'll get 2015 UY points as well.

We just got back from our trip, and toured at BWV to see the models. We recieved a $50 gift card, a cheapie reusable grocery type bag, and 3 fast passes for our family for touring. We are planning on buying, but we are saving for the cash. We were told that if we purchased within 10 days of the tour we would receive 2016 points as well as our regular use points. It's a shame we will miss out on that but we won't be financing, especially not at the rates they offered!!

That CM was just trying to put some time pressure on you. don't fall for it.

Don't feel like you missed out. That was an attempt to pressure you to buy then. When buying direct you always get current points which at best is all they "offered" you. Actually, for a September, Oct or Dec UY you should have received 2015 points as that is the current UY they are in.

If someone buys direct from DVC now, and receives 2015 Use Year points, they will have very little time to use the points before they expire. Will DVC allow banking the points on a new purchase, even though it is past the banking deadline? Does it matter if you are buying at a sold-out resort or not?

They allow you to bank even if past the banking deadline.

I can confirm that they will still bank your points. I just bought direct within the 4 month window and they banked the points no problem. You just have to call them, since the system won't let you do it online.

I guess things have changed. When I bought in 2002 virtually everything my guide said turned out to be absolute truth. We were never remotely misled.

I never felt remotely misled by our guide, either. Of course, in the beginning you don't understand the DVC system and ease of lingo the way experienced owners and guides do, so I do think there tends to be some loss in translation, much like the old game of "telephone."

Thinks change, I have heard that Disney was very picky on who they hired as guides, other timeshare sales people need not apply. Now it seems that they have relaxed that policy and sales might be more important than image.

Yes no problem on the banking as long as you get it done before the UY ends. I just found out from my Guide that my add on points request for BWV became available on Sat, I had them in my account on Sun, and they banked them for me today -- for Sep UY and before I've even received the paperwork.

The one question I have is whether this is automatic later or must be done at the buy. My past impression is it was only automatic as part of the purchase process.

Hard to assess from my situation because I added so close to the end of my UY but Guide was clear from beginning I would get the points. My Guide also told me that Member Accounting had to do the bank, it couldn't be done online since edits would prevent it, I must do it before end of UY, and to cite his name if there were any issues. Member Accounting person said they had to refer it to someone else and it would take two days so now I'm in wait mode. ;-)

It's been several years but when I did this I did not bank immediately although it was more like a couple of weeks vs a couple of months.

Member services did it without question and without any issues.

My warning was really to the person who bought and didn't get the points banked as part of the purchase process and then wanted to do it later, my recollection of the wording in the POS (don't have a version that late) was that could be a problem. But as Kathy points out, it will likely work even if not completely within the rules.

As I recall they did add the provision to the POS to address allowing a direct purchase to bank after the deadline so that it was no longer up to the CM. Prior to that it could be more be dependent on negotiating with your guide and/or the MS CM you spoke to. I don't recall if it addresses any timeframe though but do not think it did.

I had the exact same experience -- and the points showed up as banked a day or two after the call.
