Buying Direct Real Advantage

How much cost do you now put on access to other resorts. This is the big long term push for Disney
Basically zero. It’s a nice to have but I’ve had great trips at Art of Animation, All Star Music, and the Fairfield on Apopka Vineland. Knowing I’ll have at least Saratoga Springs is the value to me, everything else is gravy. And if someday for some reason I want to stay at Riviera or some new resort, I will wait for a nice big discount and pay cash, and still be way, way, way ahead of buying direct.

I think it's also very resort dependent. If you're buying SSR as SAP and don't care if you're "stuck" there, resale makes a ton of sense. Especially since it's not an active resort and the direct price is crazy.

If you want to own VGF right now, the direct incentives are too good and the gap with resale is small, if not upside down with direct being cheaper. Not surprisingly, there hasn't been any VGF activity on the ROFR thread lately. There was some last quarter with sales around $150-160 per point. With direct around $161, it's absolutely worth it with the bonus of having all of the benefits.
My general “how should I buy DVC” advice is resale, but it is definitely true that if I was a VGF diehard I’d buy direct at current prices.

Correct,,,but with resale restrictions,,,you wont be able to access them when the 42's change
Therefore,,,more and more resorts when bought resale will have limited numbers.
The 14 that people talk about will be down to 8 or less
There is absolutely no way that Aulani, the second largest DVC resort, becomes even slightly harder to book after 2042. If anything all those OKW points expiring will make it easier.

If you are flexible on room type and avoid the highest travel periods, Aulani will be easy to book through at least the 2050s.

I hadn't really thought about that effect. OKW won't lose any rooms to book in 2042, but a lot of owners will leave the system.

Owners will leave in exchange for one very large owner..DVD…who will most likely use those points to book those rooms and rent for cash.

Yes Disney is either going to have to convince a LOT of people to buy 15 year contracts or they’ll have a ton of rooms available all the time.
