Buying Direct - Payment Types

I just had $14k today charged for my direct purchase so I think it depends on your credit limit. I have the Disney premiere visa so not sure if that makes a difference.

Oh weird because that's what they did for me. Something maybe to do with the limits for 6 months interest free promo? Because otherwise it doesn't make sense for them to charge the same card the next day. Maybe their rules changed because this was back in January. Also didn't have the premiere card. I know when I used my 18 month interest free credit card for my second direct add on they just charged it all at once.

Yup just did a quick search here on DIS and found that Chase would only honor the 6 month interest free if it's $10k or under. Perhaps that has changed or you weren't interested in the 6 month interest free?

Wait, so, if one has say a $40K credit limit, Disney will allow charging the entire DVC purchase of $40K onto a credit card? And the transaction gets coded as travel with the credit card company?

Have to remember to collect my CC points when the time comes.

I didn’t realize there was a threshold for it to be interest free. I will be paying it off so I’m not worried about interest free. I really don’t like not paying off my CC bill every month even if it is interest free.

Can you split the payment across different cards if you don’t have enough credit limit on a single card for the whole price?

We purchased all our points direct. Two of the contracts went over my credit limit.

We put the first max charg allowed - as soon as it posted, we paid it off (cash from the bank) a few days later, the guide applied the balance and again, and we paid it off. This will work if you are not paying it off in six months, (interest free), etc. etc.

You can also spread it over several credit cards. I opened a few new cards when we added on direct, we got about $1500 rewards on a $15k purchase. I’ll deal with the minor credit hit for 10% off DVC direct.

What cards did you use? Did you get get straight cash back or miles?

I forget exactly, it was a couple of years ago. I think we had a couple of cards that gave $500 cash back, a Chase Sapphire, Barclaycard Arrival, and a United business for 80k miles, and we put some on a Disney visa and paid the last part over 6 months.

Yes, this exactly. I used Chase Sapphire Reserve which gives 3x points for travel. (We did not need financing.) DVC was coded as travel and I did get the 3x Chase Rewards points on $27k. Enough to fly us all to Hawaii. :-)

In my case my guide charged $5k on Friday to make sure it didn't get flagged as fraud, then the balance on Monday. So for sure choose your credit card smartly! The Points Guy has recommendations for which cards have the best deals on travel any given month, especially during Covid.
