Buying direct (older resorts)

Hi all. I have read that it's often possible to purchase older resorts DVC direct (providing availability). Does anyone have an idea of what the cost per point is approximately? I assume it would be less than buying new resorts due to less time available on the contract?

That’s logical to assume, so depending the resort you’re likely to be wrong. Disney math.

Most are less yes, but depending on where you’re looking, different prices. Vero is $150pp the others range in the $209-275 range

They do not price sold out resorts to sell…they price them higher so that tr new resorts look more advantageous.

A few will be lower but the majority will be more.

The only time its worth it is if you need a small contract there and you need points immediately or DVC is incentivizing the resort. Not that long ago they were selling AKV for 165 per point if you bought 200 points. A few years ago they also had a flash sale on Aulani where if you bought 300 AUL points you could get it for 133. Often though even with incentives they’re typically still much more expensive than their resale counterparts. BLT had incentives recently which brought the point to 200 compared to 130-150 on the resale market. Obviously whether or not you think direct is worth it is entirely subjective.

The current pricing through Disney for ANY resort is amazingly high. It almost just seems like a 'bubble' and you wonder how long it can stay in the air. And then you realize that demand for Disney, Disney World and DVC is NOT falling off.

Even so, unless you have an absolute need to purchase DIRECT from Disney - maybe because you need a particular resort at a particular Use Year - then I'm not at all sure why you would do it at this point. You will NEVER get enough extra benefits, by purchasing direct from Disney, to make it worthwhile.

I can understand that. Everyone is different. I will agree it DOES make sense sometimes, for various reasons, but just getting the 'perks' is probably not worth it.

Direct purchase with Disney is $192 with promotions and incentives, but right now they are also offering $22/point to buy back your first year of points. We do not even need to discuss resale restrictions, splitting the purchase into smaller contracts or that direct closing costs are less. This resale contract is more than direct.

Yes, it is indeed more than direct, which is kind of surprising, but certainly could happen if people aren't paying attention.
