When you purchase direct, can you choose your use year or fobthey match it to the month of purchase? If I were to buy direct today could I choose a sept use year?

second question, if you buy resale and then buy direct after the fact can you start a new contact on a new use year?

Thank you all got your very helpful information on these forums.

Even with the same use year, the second purchase would be a new CONTRACT. What you're asking is if you can start a second MEMBERSHIP. The answer is yes, but your guide will likely try to steer you pretty hard towards the same use year you already have.

To add, if you want to add direct in a different UY, you will be required to purchase at least 150 as it is a new membership.

When adding a contract to current UY, you are eligible for adding on as little as 25 points at some resorts and 50 points at others.

Which resorts are you able to add only 25 points too?

All resorts except RIV and CCV, which are 50 point minimum. We don't know about VGF yet as sales are suspended. But, IMO, that will come back with a 50 point minimum as well.

25 point add ons are for cash sales only...financing via Disney requires a minimum of 50 points are all resorts.

New UY would require a minimum of 150, even if you own other points.

That's interesting, I didn't know that. OK so another question. Say I buy 100 points direct on 1 membership/use year and then 50 in another, do they add up to get me a blue card? Or do all 150 points have to be on the same membership?

Must all be in the same membership.

Another question because I know you know your stuff, lol. I currently have a 200 pt March use year contract, so say I wanted to add on at BLT with the current member incentives... Do I have to stick with the March use year? Or could I do 150 points and ask for say an August use year and still get those incentives?

You can get the incentives even with a new UY, as long as you are okay going with the 150.

gotcha, thank you! we do our longer 7-8 night trips in the spring or summer usually so the March use year is great for that... but I might eventually like a small (60-75 pt) contract with Aug, sept, or october use year to use for a couple of nights in the winter... looks like I would have to find that resale then.

We are looking at buying a direct contract tomorrow. Still deciding between Riviera and Saratoga Springs. Love Riviera but the resale restrictions have us thinking it over. The current incentives are nice however. That said, this will be our first contract. I was told they are doing Feb use years currently. Can I request say an April or May use year? The guide didn't mention anything about previous years points as obviously Feb has already passed. Would we get previous years if we did the April or May UY? Is this something they automatically offer or would we have to ask for it? Sorry for all the questions but want to make sure we get everything we should as this is a big investment.

I am often puzzled by this type of comment. Riviera is a higher end product, Saratoga is not. If you're concerned about making a loss on resale I would caution against buying Saratoga direct in the first place. As soon as the ink is dry you've lost $45-$50 per point compared to SSR resale right there!

Riviera is currently selling for more on resale than Saratoga. We have no firm data that the resale restrictions are the horror that some imagined. In my view a contract at Riviera with incentives and skyliner access is no contest. No disrespect to SSR, gorgeous refurbed rooms but just not in the same league.

Yes you can but guides are likey to push specific UY. Just be firm and explain why you require a specific UY. They may have to "get permission" from a manager but you can request other UY if they have points available. If you get an April UY you will get 2021 points. There is no May UY.

I am going to add to what was posted..which I agree with everything that was said.

Since SSR is a sold out resort, it’s possible they can’t sell you April UY points as they would have to have them in stock with 2021 points still in them.

However, with RIV in active sales, you will get them and if that UY works better for travel, just tell them that is the one you want.

I too would not worry about resale because in the end, I have a hard time now on believing that RIV will ever be worth less on resale than SSR will be.

It’s a popular resort and it’s going for more than most of us thought it ever would. I even paid $152/point for it because I love the resort that much!

I totally understand where you're coming from and decided against Riviera for the same reasons. It's not that I think a SSR resale contract will be worth more than a Riviera contract, I just think there is a smaller market of people who are willing to buy a resale Riviera contract knowing they can only use it at Riviera, which might make it more difficult to sell down the road. Also, the points chart. We like 1 BR and I can use a lot less points for a 1BR at SSR vs Riviera, which means I didn't have to purchase as many points to begin with. I bought 200 at SSR, but I would have needed more at Riviera. But the other thing with me is I genuinely love SSR. I love walking to disney springs and we tend to go over there multiple times per trip. The newly refurbished rooms are gorgeous. The pools are awesome. I know SSR is a fall back resort for a lot of people but it's a top choice for me. I stayed at the Riviera prior to buying in just because I wanted to check it out and I still love Saratoga. Now, all that being said... I ended up buying SSR resale. If I were buying direct right now, I'd totally be looking at the new Grand Floridian. Same price point as Riviera with no restrictions... I'm tempted to add on there myself... :)
