If we purchased currency online, and we use a visa to pay will be charged like at travel agents?

Have looked around travelex site and it does not say anything, and would not like to order then be hit with the charges.

My understanding is that every credit card purchase of currency is treated like a cash advance and you pay interest from the start, but they sholud tell you this in advance somewhere.

Yes it is the CC that charge you for this and should be clearly stated in your terms and conditions with them, the comapny exchanging your money should also advise you of this.

Travelex state this on their website -

Please note: The purchase of travel money with a credit/debit card may incur a cash advance fee charged by your credit/debit card issuer. This fee would be levied irrespective of whether your travel money was purchased by phone, over the internet or over the counter. This is NOT charged by Travelex. Maestro/Switch cards do not incur a cash advance fee.

from here.

Just wanted to say I have used my Halifax Visa debit card twice now to purchase currency and have not been charged regardless of the fact that both times I have been warned (but the company I bought the currency from) that I might be.

halifax now use tralex as the currency provider so I dont know if that stops the charge
