Hi everyone,

Just looking for a bit of advice. One of my friends is getting married in December and just let us know what dress to get. It's also over $200, and I'm really not looking to spend that much right now if I can avoid it. Instead of going through the bridal stores, have any of you ever ordered the dresses online through online distributors? I'm looking at HouseofBrides.com. I know all the bridesmaid retailers say not to buy from those places, but has anyone had a good or bad experience with them? Just looking for some advice either way - TIA!

I don't have advice, sorry...just wanted to say I love your siggy pic.

I think some of the girls here have gotten a dress on that site before so hopefully one of them can help you.

house of brides is BAD. my sister was in a wedding in april. one of the girls in the wedding ordered her dress in october, they kept saying it would be there and it never showed, a few days before the wedding, the poor girl had to track down a dress and she finally (thank God) found one. the day before the wedding, her dress from HoB arrived...i've never heard good things about them and that story takes the cake.

i ordered my wedding gown off ebay from christina's bridal, i had a great experience with them and loved them!

Oh gosh that is horrible...yeah I would not order from them then lol.

HoB may be bad, but there are plenty of reputable online retailers, and, of course, eBay! Retail stores tell you not to order online b/c it cuts into their profits. And just as many people - if not more - have horror stories about dealing with retail stores: order never placed, stores closing before the dress comes in, sales clerks sneaking nonreturnable items into your order, etc.

If you check out the book "Bridal Bargains" by Denise and Alan Fields, it lists reputable online retailers. :thumbsup2 You can usually find it at your local library or on Amazon used, for cheap!

I'm from the UK and my friend ordered our dresses from HoB, it took 3 months for them to arrive, delivery was free and the dresses were perfect. I'm planning on ordering mine from there because all the dresses I want are half price on there. I am gonna take a look at ebay though.

I ordered from a US site called magicmomentscollections and both dresses arrived fine.

I had a customs charge to pay, but as the dresses were half the price they were in the UK, it was still a much better deal to do it this way.

They are quite creased, but that's to be expected I guess, but I can thoroughly recommend the service, and they kept me updated with estimate delivery times, letting me know when the dresses had arrived into their New York office and posted on to the UK, and they ended up arriving sooner than originally estimated too :thumbsup2

my girls got theirs from Overstock.com..same dress they found in David's Bridal

I was in the wedding Caryn mentioned above. The wedding was in April, the dress was ordered in November, it was supposed to come in late Feb, Early March. Late March she started calling and she heard things like "It's here, it's shipping today" "I don't have a record of your order" "No, we don't have a manager you can speak to" "Alfred Angelo never sent it". Finally, a week before the wedding, she went to a boutique, bought a dress off the rack and had it tailered. The dress she ordered showed up at her door the morning of the wedding.
What if she couldn't get a dress in the right color or size?

The bride in that wedding used RKBridal.com and she raved about their service. They also have a bridesmaid dress program so that's worth checking out and they will beat any internet price by 5% (i think)

I found this place last night as well. Thanks for all the advice - I'm just annoyed at this point. My friend got engaged a month ago and married (very small ceremony) a week ago because her mother didn't think it was proper for them to live together before they were married. Now her mother is planning a huge wedding, and even though my friend said that we could choose any dress in a certain color, this has now changed to a certain dress. The wedding/renewal is only in 4 months as well, so it doesn't leave me too much time to get the dress in. I want to save money, but also make sure I'll have the dress in time.

My sister and my future SIL both ordered their dresses from House of Brides and they came exactly when HOB said they would.
So, we're happy.

We bought my sisters (MOH) on Ebay for $50! I had been searching for BM dresses and I couldn't find one on any of the sites I was looking at so I thought what the heck and I checked out Ebay and that is where I found it. I found out later that is was actually a David's Bridal dress which is where we ended up getting a second one for my BM. :)

When I received the dress a week later it was in perfect condition! No rips, tears, stains and the beading was in place. We really lucked out!

Got my wedding dress made on ebay. It was custom made and it was only 89.00! It took exatly a month to get to me.

Try Pearl's Bridal in Louisiana. they have a site but really you can not buy from it. You call them up with the style, color and size. I found my bridesmaids dresses $25-50 cheaper (and that included the shipping cost). They are very reputable and many girls have used them.
