We are cruising on the 7 day Western cruise in January 2005. Can anyone tell me if we will be allowed to bring beer or wine that we purchase in Key West on board to our stateroom? I have heard that we are allowed to bring liquor on board in our carry on bag during the embarkment on sailing date. However, any liquor purchased while we cruise is taken and held until we depart. Is this true?:scratchin

Any liquor purchased in a port is allowed back into your stateroom. They do not check anything upon reboarding (do put things through a scanner, but purely for safety reasons). It's the liquor purchased on the ship (duty free shop) that is held until you get off.

We were in Key West on June 20. Bought and brought back onboard a case of beer and a bottle of gin -- no questions asked. HTH

Thanks. That makes more sense now. I can see them holding the duty free liquor on the ship until our return.

If you REALLY REALLY want to save on monies by buying beer and wine in Key West - make it a point to go out on North Roosevelt Blvd - you can take one of the buses out there - go to Winn Dixie - they are more reasonable than getting there in downtown Key West - if you feel this is where you need to get it - go to Fausto's Market that is on the corner of Bahama and Fleming Street which is about 5 blocks South of Mallory Square - fleming Street runs accross Duval Street - ok
Once upon a time, a Chinese couple had a huge laundry business at the same spot that Fausto's is - they did all the laundry for the hotels, businesses etc in key West - they would boil all the sheets, pillowcases etc in huge pots on the grounds and then they would be hand washed and hung out to dry on clothes lines that stretched over the land - the items then would be taken down and hand ironed - how do I know - we lived right next door to them and they were very gentle and very kind people - they were teaching me how to speak Chinese when they learned they had to get back to China for their country were in turmoil - this was in 1941 - I have never forgotten them and each time I go by this section, my thoughts go back to "once upon a time" - another tidbit about Key West :D
Always
