Buying Beer at Epcot (Funny incident last week!)

Is one beer per person a recent rule? A few years ago at the F&WF we went to a beer tasting. There was a tent set up somewhere in the back of the WS. The owner of the brewery was supposed to be there to describe the beers, talk about the brewing process, etc. Well, he didn't show up, so the few of us who were there (maybe five people) were told by the CM's that we could help ourselves to all the beer we wanted.

About that many beers later we decided to resume our evening dining around the lake.

I'm glad I heard about this rule so we can be prepared. This is a major inconvenience. Last time we were at the Rose & Crown, my husband held our table in the public seating area while I stood in the queue for fish & chips. We had planned to also get beer, but changed our minds and opted for soda that time. However, I am certain that one day we would find ourselves with one of us queueing and the other holding a table or off in a shop or holding a spot to see British Invasion.

This sounds a bit draconian. I do understand that they must ensure minors are not being served, but c'mon. With the way seating is, they cannot really expect everyone to stand in the queue to get served and then chance not being able to find a seat. It is common practice to split up and one person hold a table (or watch the kids) and the other queue for food/drink.

Exactly how does Disney track how many beers you've drank (drunk, whatever)? And does that go for Margaritas, wine, mixed drinks, ect?

What a small world! I love this so called place "Dis-World" because you never know when you might run into someone from here (at WDW, the grocery store, a bar...)

Anyways, this is actually a common rule at most places. Here at our Bush Gardens it is the same way. When I was at a Metallica concert last year, the same thing happened. The woman in front of me was needing 3 beers (her two friends were sitting down already) and I just needed one for me so I bought hers. I don't mind the rule much since it does serve it's purpose, although there is always a way around rules.

Which way 2 hrs from Disney? We are in Sarasota....

Lillygator, I'm in Gainesville by DH and I have vacationed in the Sarasota area (Long Boat Key and Siesta Key) many times....but for the last couple of years we've been hooked on Disney and St Augustine!

It's hard to watch our dogs grow old....my pound puppy is over 13 now, can't believe it!

Yes! FINALLY somebody recognizes how noble I am!

I do think it's too cool that the incident involved DISboarders. While we were watching the British Invasion, we also saw a family (mom, dad, two boys) all decked out in lime green tee shirts but I was too chicken to go up to them. I was also wearing a lime green shirt--it's such a popular color these days (although it's being called apple green this season) that it's hard to know who is a DISer.

My brother stood in the line in front of the Rose & Crown stand to get a beer. When he handed the English girl his ID, she looked at it and said " Ah, I see your a Taurus" He then said back to her with a puzzled look on his face and said " I thought everyone here was a tourist?? "

floridagirrl2, I loved your story. No one has ever come to my rescue in a similar situation.... you're a hero... During F&W it's really tough cuz you're trying to split up to make a couple of lines, but I'm only 5' tall, so it's hard for bartenders to see where my DH is pointing!

The OPs story has the makings of a Disney Animated Classic...Missing mom, problem to overcome, villain (CM), hero steps in, happy ending! And it even has BEER!!!!! Hooray! What should we call it? The Little Barmaid? Beauty and the Beer? Beernocchio? Lady and the Drunk? 101 Alcoholics? Drinkerella? The possibilities are endless...

This past April we my family arrived at the Polynesian after 11pm. I went to Captain Cook's while my wife settled the kids in the room and attempted to purchase 2 beers at over 5 bucks each and was only allowed to purchase 1. Dumb rule I thought. The next night on the way back to the room I stopped in the gift shop and was allowed to purchase a 6 pack of the same beer no problem for $12...Perhaps I'm thinking I should carry a little plastic 6-pack holder around and I can round up more than 1 drink at a time. Stupid Disney rule that makes no sense after having this experience.

I do understand the poilcy but unfortunately it would be impossible to enforce in Epcot. At the casino I work at you can only buy one, you can't bring it to someone then come right back for another, and we have to see the actual person who will be drinking it. Then we alert every server and the other bar if you are trying to get more than one. This is a huge hassle. Dh is very glad Disney is not as strict as I am at work because it would seriously interfere with his "drinks around the world tour"

OK, so it sounds as if this rule is strictly enforced at Disney. Let's get practical here and discuss workable options for ocassions when it is not feasible for both adults to stand in queue (one is holding a table, one is watching the kids, etc.).

Is it acceptable to carry the other person's ID up to the bar in order to buy the drink? I'm thinking of the example of Rose & Crown where one person is holding a table while the other goes up to buy the drinks. Can I take my DH's driver's license with me to show I'm buying the second beer for him?

I was shopping in France recently, and a woman came up trying to buy two glasses of wine. The girl explained how she could not sell her two, that she needed to hand the other guest his drink. The woman paid for two wines, the girl poured them, and the woman left with her drink. A few minutes later, the man returned, picked his drink up from behind the counter and left. I thought this was a rather smart way to get around the rule. Maybe you could ask the other vendors to "hold" the extra one, and then whoever it is for can return once you have gotten to the table to watch the "kids".

floridagirrrl-I have approached a few people wearing lime green...only to have them look at me curiously and clutch their purses and wallets tightly to their chests. Now my DH says I am not allowed to approach anyone anymore!
