We had seen the dvc booth several time on our Disney vacations. We never had the time to stop until the last trip at the very end. It was a very fast metting with the dvc cm due to us not wanting to miss any of our very busy, over planned trip..
Anyway, I was sold on a 210 point SSR contract. I have never stayed at ssr and hope I have not made a bad choice not buying at our favorite spot thus far. We have not found our "home" and have had fun looking. (4 days beach club 2001, 4 days Wonder 2001, 4 days bc 2004/5, 4 days Magic, 4days poly) I spent A huge amount of money during our first two wdw vacations and thought that buying into the dvc was a no brainer. I wished I would have made my purchase years ago. Now I am reading buy where you want to stay. I am having second thoughts on SSR for location to the parks.
What would the pros do if they started over..
DVC ROOKIE.
Disneyland is our home away from Dvc... Burbank, Ca

Buy where you want to stay. We own at three resorts because we felt we would want to stay at these three and wanted the 11 month advantage to get our reservation. If you only want to go during the busier times of the year and you need a GV or BW View or something special, you need that home resort advantage.

Our family purchased VWL for one main reason, it's the smallest DVC resort @ WDW and we wanted to make sure reservation could be had basically anytime we wanted to stay. That said, unless we wanted to stay during the busiest DVC seasons (X-Mas, Easter, Early December, Thanksgiving, etc.), I don't think we would have much problem staying @ VWL or anywhere for that matter. It all depends on how far you'd be able to play your trips and what time of the year you'd be going to WDW :tilt:

We bought at SSR and love it. To us, the close proximity to Downtown Disney, which is often a daily destination, is more important than being close to a theme park we will only visit a couple of times during our stay.

And, you can't beat being that close to a spa and golf course.

If I understand you correctly, you have already closed at SSR. If that is the case, then you made a good decision. No need to look back now, look forward to many enjoyable stays! You can always add on or buy resale at another resort later if you want a different location. We purchased our first contract in 1994, and that wouldn't qualify us as a pro, but as I look back, I should of bought two years earlier. We have added on several times at two other resorts in ten years, and I can't tell you what a great investment it has been for our family. You did GOOD!

You know, what?? Unless it is of utmost and total importance for you to be able to walk into Epcot or MGM at will, then you'll be taking a bus/boat anyhow to whatever park you want to go.

We are owners at OKW. We have never had any trouble booking into any of the other DVC resorts when we have wanted to.

I wouldn't worry too much about it.

We bought site unseen at VWL back in 2001. It was the DVC resort being sold at the time. It really didn't matter which resort, I just wanted in and Disney provided the financing so it was an easy transaction. We added on almost immediately at the same resort/use yr. We have stayed at BWV, OKW a few times, HHI a few times even during Thanksgiving when that resort fills up fast and of course our home resort VWL. On our last trip in aug/sept we decided to stay at SSR and experience this new resort. We were so impressed with it that we added on there also, and will be going back in April for a 5 day stay.

To us home resort really hasn't mattered yet. We have always been able to get reservations in some resort for our stays. We just aren't picky.

I hope "WELCOME HOME IS IN ORDER"

Good Choice on SSR. It will be nice to walk home from a night at DTD.

I agree with the others that BWYWTS is important but the caveat is BWYWTS if you can make definite plans at 7 to 11 months.

I would much rather pay lower dues at the larger resorts (which are great and I woud not feel slighted in the least to vacation there) and occasionally "luck up" and stay at one of the smaller ones than to pay higher dues at the smaller ones and feel pressure to secure plans that early or risk not being able to stay at my home.

I dont own at VWL but was able to book 10 nights over Christmas 2004 there with the help of the waitlist. We also stayed at SSR and loved it and I agree, DTD was an almost daily destination, whereas Magic Kingdom was only on the itinerary twice in a 16 day period and Epcot and MGM once.

You really cant go wrong with any DVC as they are all beautiful resorts.

We own at OKW,BCV,and SSR , even though OKW is our favorite the multiple locations gives you som options and makes ressies a little more flexible. It's been a plus for us.( we have used our points at BWV and WLV also and will be going to Vero in April.) You can't go wrong. :jumping2:

No Worries! The DH and I bought into SSR last July. We love our choice and will never regret our purchase! Every DVC resort has at least a couple of advantages. SSR is a great location as far as Downtown Disney goes. We love being able to walk over there at night, plus the view! We used DD as our personal bus hub. We could easily navigate between resorts because of DD. We had dinner on the Boardwalk and just took a bus back to DD at night. The location gives you so many options! Congrats on your purchase. Have fun with your points! All you need is faith, trust and a little bit of Pixie dust!
