Buying An Annual Pass Question

Has anyone ever given anyone money to purchase a voucher for annual pass for themselves. Here is my thought: I have someone going to Disney next year. If i gave them the money to purchase me an annual pass, can they put it in my name, or would it have to be in theirs. Reason being , trying to save the $30 buck sales tax on it. Or will they charge the sales tax anyway down there?

From what I understand, you are charged FL tax wherever you purchase the AP. We paid the FL tax at our local (TN) Disney store--which was a savings for us!

campingcorgi is right, you will pay the same tax on all WDW tickets no matter where you purchase them. 6% - same as here in PA.
Believe me, trying to save that tax is something that ALL Of use Budgetteers consider trying. But the state of FLA gets their piece of the action no matter WHERE we MouseLovers are!

Just to clarify a bit: You do have to pay the FL tax no matter where you buy admission media (of any kind) for WDW. However, you do not have to pay any other state's tax on the purchase. As far as sales or use taxes go, it's the 6% for FL and nothing for any other state!

FWIW, there's really no advantage to buying APs/PAPs ahead of time (unless you want to protect yourself from a price increase or like to have some parts of your trip paid ahead of time). There is no advance purchase discount on APs/PAPs and you can get the Disney Club discount at the gate. As far as I know, the ONLY discount for APs/PAPs at this time is the Disney Club discount.

Here's amother problem you'd face:

You don't want your friend getting the AP for you because you cannot purchase a voucher at WDW. You get the actual activated pass. So if your friend buys it for you, your year starts counting from that very day.

GoldenOldie is correct about purchasing the AP at Disney. It is activated at the time of purchase. Also, they take a finger scan at that time & the person purchasing the pass is the only one that can use it.

The price increases have already gone into effect so at this point it probably doesn't matter if you get the voucher at home & turn it in when you get there or just wait until you are in Disney & get it then.

Actually, it says right in the Disney Club handbook that the discounts are only good for advanced purchases of admissions media, including the AP. I would have preferred to buy my AP on-site at Guest Relations, but I have been reading on these boards that some people were having a hard time getting the DC discount on the AP at the gate. I decided to order my APs over the phone to ensure that I get the discount. I am not thrilled about having to carry $1,400 worth of lime green vouchers all the way to Florida, but every cent counts.

For all the great info you guys!! One more question if you don't mind? For you guys who have the disney club, what kind of discount do you get on your annual premium pass? Is it worth joining the club? Arent the discontiuing it but it might be worth it to spend $40 if the discount is more than that.

The DC price for a new adult PAP is $497.17. The regular price is $518.38.

I was under the impression (mistaken?) that we could stop at Ocala on our way down and get our AP's for a few dollars less than the price at the parks under the new advance purchase rules. Please set me straight.
