Buying a used IPAD

My mom just bought a refurbished one from apple online, she saved about $80. They come with the same warranty, and a new screen.

Very happy with the iPad2. For what I would use it for I think it has more than enough memory (16, the smallest). My 9yo son has had it for a year now, he got it for his birthday last year but I usually swipe it in the evenings.

Space: We have to delete things a lot so that we can add more. So if I were to buy another one it would probably have more memory. He likes to take pictures and videos, and make stop motions and create cartoons, all of which take up a lot of space. There is no room for movies.

Processing: I'm always surprised at how smooth it runs, seems to have a seamless processor.

Display: Aside from the boy-smear the picture quality is great, and I have never thought, gee I wish we had an iPad3 for the display.

I've had an Ipad 2 (32GB, Wi-Fi only) since they came out. Works just fine. Only thing I wish it had was a better camera. Not enough of an issue for me to upgrade at this point. Will have to see what the next one brings and maybe then I'll upgrade.

I was told that if I was to buy used to buy only from Apple as a refurbished item.

And not to buy from a private seller.

(This was info from my younger brother, who used to work for Apple in their phone tech area.)

I recommend the mini iPad. We have an ipad2 but use the mini more because it is so much lighter. Most of my siblings have earlier ipads and all of them are wanting to get the mini! I have just the 16gb but I find that it has plenty of space. Either way you'll love it.

I bought a refurbished ipad from apple just over a year ago. I have not had any problems at all.

I agree with buying refurbished from Apple, I have bought three ipods for the kids this way and have zero complaints! I have thought of buying a mini for myself but haven't quite talked myself into it. My husband and I bought our first laptop about 8 months ago, my kids have way more up to date electronics than we do! I will tell you that having facetime on the ipods was great when my oldest was in France for spring break, it was so cool to see her face in real time 4000 miles away, it made me miss her a tiny bit less since I could see her smiling face!

We have 5 Ipads at our house my 20yr old son we bought his refurbished from apple and have no problems at all.

can you play candy crush and Farmville type games on a ipad? I need a new computer and have been thinking of going this route instead but I LOVE my games and play for about 2 plus hrs a day instead of watching tv thanks

I wouldn't get an iPad instead of a computer. I love my iPad, but I still need to get on my computer for things I can't do on the iPad, even if it is only a couple of times a week. ;) Candy Crush is in the app store and I guess you can play FarmVille through facebook, but I'm not sure.

On the day it was released in 2010, I bought a 64 GB AT&T iPad at the Apple Store. The cost? $829 plus tax. No coupons, no discounts. Yes, that hurt. I used that iPad until about a month ago when I finally upgraded and passed my Original iPad down to my DD10.

Psst - Lean close, I am going to pass on a secret. The iPad 4th Generation is out. Most people do not know the differences between the 3rd which has been discontinued and the 4th which is still being made. The differences aren't major. The front facing camera is better, the processor is a bit upgraded and the connector is different. The connector is the most noticeable difference.

I found out that many stores, Best Buy and Brandsmart type places still have some iPad 3rd Gens in stock. I picked up an iPad 3rd Gen 64 GB AT&T at Brandsmart for $599. That's a substantial savings!

DH and I both have iPad (original), got them used about a year ago. He pretty much lives on his and has never had any problems. I use mine a little bit and it has also been perfectly reliable, no problems at all. I don't do much with games, I did get the Farmville app and played that a minimal amount. It seemed to work ok when I did play it.

Probably most people would want a 2nd generation or newer, 1st generations ones have worked fine for us. Unfortunately what is going to happen w/the 1st gens is since they are limited to the 5.something iOS, the apps will eventually become designed for iOS 6 and beyond...that's gonna eventually limit the usability of the older generation iPads, iPods etc...
