Buying a Magic Band in Advance of trip? Especially, a Graphic one from park?

Hi- this is my first post, I just started reading the various forums.

We are staying at the Swan in March and want to get Magic Bands. I have a friend going this weekend to Disney and was wondering if it would be a good idea to have her purchase Magic Bands in advance.

Also, when googling to try to find the answer, I read there are some custom bands in the park. However, the article which was from a while ago said that they have to be linked on the spot. Does anyone know anything about these and if that is still accurate?

I called the Swan/Dolphin and they are available in the gift shop, but I thought it would be fun to get the custom bands if we could link them in March.

Also, if you have been to the Swan/ Dolphin do they have all colors available? I have 5 and 7 year old boys and would like to get their favorite colors.

ETA: I found an article on ******************* dot com saying that graphic magic bands are now link it later, does anyone know if this is true or a legit site?

Not sure if you're flying, but I also stayed at the Swan bought them at the Disney Store in the Airport (MCO) once we landed - I think it's called Earport. Took all of 5 minutes to buy and link 2 bands in the MDE app on my phone

Not sure about custom ones there or whether they have to be linked immediately, sorry.

We did this for my 2'SILs who were going with us but staying offsite. We had dining plans and fast passes together so it made sense to use the band and not the hard tickets. Way easier. I was able to get all of our plans together linking our MDE accounts.

Thanks! That is a great resource. I think I will do that if I cannot find an answer if you can buy special bands in the park. Not sure what graphic bands are out right now anyway, but thought it was worth a try.

The Limited Release and Limited Edition MagicBands can now be purchased and linked later. Your friend can purchase them for you and you'll just have to link the ID number (found on the underside of the band) to each person in your MDE account.

The Limited MagicBands can only be purchased in the Parks.

Great that is what I needed to know! I thought it would be fun to get my boys these bands instead of the regular ones.

If you know of websites that shows graphic ones available, I figure I might be able to search posts of people mentioning theirs. I have one site right now that has some.

Google MagicBand Collectors and Ethan's very comprehensive site will pop up. For some reason, it can't always be linked here. There are some new ones being released this month.

there are some Frozen themed ones being sold at DHS, a Haunted Mansion theme at MK, and special band for the MVMCP (which can only be purchased at the party). Right now that appears to be it. Star Wars bands were sold last June but limited edition and are gone now.

I think my youngest would love an Olaf Magic band or the sorcerer Mickey if it is out when they are there.

Was thinking Big Hero for oldest, I wish they had the Star Wars ones. I figure we will get two and if something else comes out, DH or I can take theirs and get them a new one when we get there.

If your friend has time, the Yoda band had still been available in DHS. The last report was it could still be found at Legends on Sunset but only if a CM was specifically asked about its availability.
