Stupid question, but what is the actual cost of a loaf of bread and a gallon of milk in Florida, outside of Disney? Here in Buffalo, those are $0.79-.99 and $1.59-$2.09. I've been sticker shocked traveling, besides Disney. (We pay more for gas. A lot more in NY).
I can't give exact quotes at Publix, but I usually expect bread to be $2-2.50 loaf, but I tend to look for preservative-free bread. The least expensive store-brand white bread is $1-1.50.
I usually expect milk to be $3-3.50/gal ($2 for a half gal) for regular (non-organic) milk.
Publix prices run about my expectations, or slightly lower, with good quality fruit, and a wide selection.
I've also shopped at Whole Foods just beside Universal. They have an awesome hot foods/cold food buffet, and many prepared foods. (sushi!) It isn't cheap, but wide choices for an arrival day lunch. Everything from seafood to pizza, to a dozen soups, to all kinds of bakery quality desserts.
At WF, bread tends to be about $3-4 loaf for bakery bread. Milk is about $3.50/gal, probably $2.50/half gal. A twelve pack of single-serve milk boxes is about $10-12, and organic at WF.
I usually expect to pay about $5 for 24bottle case of basic water at either store. Publix often has a sale of $5 for 36 bottles store-brand water, or a 12pack for about $3-5, depending on the brand. W Foods high end bottled water gets crazy, but store brand is about on par with Publix. W Foods has a wide selection of healthy snack foods, and is also great if anyone has special allergy needs or is vegetarian.
Publix is also a reasonably decent place to get other items too, like sunscreen and toiletries. They tend to have a great selection. W Foods is not a good place to get sunscreen.
Other trips, we have shopped at the drug stores, like Walgreen's. if you just want water, and arrive late, they usually have a good sale on bottled water. Bread is often priced a little high, but milk is about the same as Publix. They usually have reasonably priced bananas, too.
