Buying a Kindle even though I already have an iPhone?

I know a lot of people on this board have Kindles and iPhones, so I figured this would be the place to ask this question. I haven't bought a Kindle yet because I already have an iPhone 4 with the Kindle app, but I am getting more and more tempted to buy one, mostly because of the bigger screen. So what's your opinion? Is it worth it to have both? If I decide to get one, should I go with the Wifi only or the Wifi/3G?

Thanks in advance!

This is just my opinion....

I love reading on the Kindle. It's very much a book-like experience, but you can increase the font, carry 1000's of books at a time, make notes in your book etc.

As for having the Kindle app and a Kindle....I also love this. They two will synch to the furthest page read, so that you can use each at a different time and they will keep track of your place. This allows you to read at home and when you find yourself in line at the bank, waiting at the DRs office, picking up kids etc....you can read a chapter or two on your phone.

The new Kindle available is supposed to have even better clarity, a month long battery life and a much lower price. Mine was $299.00.

I have a 3G model (only model available when I bought) and it works well but, I would also be happy with a wifi only model. I've never really purchased a book on the run, so I'm not sure I'd need to have the extra 3G coverage. I'd be able to load up on books at home (wifi) and have enough to keep me happy for however long it was until I found a wifi spot.

I also have an iPad and much prefer the reading experience of the Kindle. You will need an outside light source to read your Kindle in the dark...but you need a light source to read just about everything in the dark, other than your ipad.

Good luck.

The lower price point on the kindle intrigues me. For now I am sticking with my iPad, but I have been tempted now to pick up one of the new kindles as well.

This is a pretty green question, but does kindle have backlight support?

I tend to read more at night, in low light situations than in bright light/outdoor situations.

Two strong features of the kindle IMHO is weight and the furthest page feature.

So the only time you need Wi-Fi is to download the books? The cheaper model then would have to be plugged into your computer to purchase and download the books if I understand correctly. ???

It is my understanding that if you have a wireless network in your house you could connect the kindle to the network to download books.

If you have the "wifi only" version....you will need to find a wifi hot spot to download books.

We have wifi in the house, so I can download books from home.

If you have the "wifi / 3G" version...you can download books from anywhere you would have a cell signal.

There is no need to hook your Kindle to a computer.

You can even book shop from your Kindle.

Oh, I guess I had it backwards. We have wi-fi at home too so that shouldn't be a problem. Thanks for the explanation.

DH loves his kindle and has the "kandle" light for when he reads outside at nite. Works good.

I have an iPhone, iPad and a Nook. While I love my iPad and iPhone, I'd much rather read using the e-ink display. It is much more pleasant on the eyes. iPhone is a little too small to read with, and iPad is a little too heavy. If you read heavily, you should definitely conisder some sort of e-book reader (especially with free 3G)...not to mention, carrying it around with you makes you look really smart.

The biggest upside to the iPhone and iPad is that you have 3 e-bookstores to choose from (itunes, Amazon, BN) all on one device, but all of them will more than likely have recent best sellers. Recently Amazon sold more e-books than paper books, so the trend is definitely not going to die down... a Kindle (or Nook) would certainly be a great investment!
