I just started working last week- full time for training. I was at the mall this morning (actually just about an hour ago) and there is a kiosk with a couple of men who do portrait's from photographs. I have been wanting to check it out and see about having my kids done for my Mom. I had 2 pictures of them in my wallet and before I knew it I put $170 on the credit card to have their picture done for my Mother for Christmas!

I am really impressed with the likenesses these 2 men have done and I know my Mother will LOVE it... but I don't think I have ever spent THAT much $$ on my own EVER without talking it over with my dh. On the drive home I thought I was going to be sick.

My Mom does a lot for us... she is divorced and I am her only child. She definitely deserves a nice gift like this, but my stomach is still doing flip flops. To top it all off- I won't be able to pick it up until the 28th.... I saved a significant amount of $$ by doing it that way.

Anyway- thanks for listening.

It will be a wonderful gift, I am sure. You are a very generous person. I am sure that DH will understand. :)

Chances are they haven't started the work and you could still back out if you have too. Talk it over with your DH, tell him why you'd like to do it and give it some consideration. You might even call the place and tell them you are having 2nd thoughts and would like to put the project on hold.

Give yourself the rest of the day and then do what you think is best.

Not to add to your remorse, but after you've spent that much, you cannot pick it up until after Christmas??

On the upside - our mom's are worth every penny. If she'll enjoy it as I'm sure she will, it's money WELL spent.

Happy Holidays!

Sign on the kiosk- "No Refunds No Exchanges"

Just the other side of the coin.

I have one son, while he has no kids(thank goodness 19 yo college student) if he did I would love and treasure a portrait like that forever.

I can imagine your Mom's face when she sees it - believe me I wouldl light up a room.

So maybe it is big bucks but I think the return will be ENORMOUS!

To top it all off- I won't be able to pick it up until the 28th.... I saved a significant amount of $$ by doing it that way.

These protraits are very expensive, I get the jist that it was a big reduction for her to wait until after Xmas.

If these guys do good work then I think in the end you won't regret this. I've seen some of those types of portraits that are just incredible and I'm guessing your mom will be beyond thrilled to receive them.

I agree with Tiggersmom. That will be worth a million to your mom. I think what might really be bothering you more is that you didn't discuss it with your husband. Hopefully he will understand.

Well I told my dh that I was going to take the other thing I bought my mother back because I ordered a portrait of the kids for her and it was very expensive. He merely said, "ok" and that was it. He didn't ask how much or anything! I guess he doesn't want to know. I'm glad I'll be getting a paycheck this week!

Thanks for the kind words everyone- I know my mother will love this gift. she is VERY hard to buy for and I usually end up getting her stuff that she never really uses and doesn't really need.

Good for You! I am an only child and only have one child too. If I did this for my mother, it would be treasured for the rest of our lives...!! Gifts like this are worth more than anything and I think you will be rewarded with a huge smile and appreciation.

Look at it this way, there are a lot of people who do not have parents to treat in this special way or people who do not treasure family like this. It is worth spending the little extra money.

If my child honored me that I'd be thrilled.

My Mom had just about everything she needed. The only thing that made her happy was something for or about her grandchildren. I know your mother will treasure your gift, no mater when she gets it.

You're a goooooood daughter!

Life is too short.....get those pictures for your mom:D :D :D

Don't beat yourself up, we all splurge once in awhile and what better way to do it than for your Mommy! Sounds like your DH is understanding.

You followed your heart and I think you did the right thing. You Mom will love it!

I'm sure your mom will like it. And if your DH has a problem with the price, quite frankly, that's his problem. You are a working woman and as long as you can still pay your bills and mortgage/rent you should be able to spend your salary however you see fit. As long as you aren't spending your entire paycheck on frivolous things when you need the money for bills.
