Buyer's Remorse

What degree of buyer's remorse did you experience when you first bought into DVC?

  • High Degree--really had to convince ourselves this was the right decision.

  • Low Degree--felt pretty certain DVC was for us, but still had 1 or 2 nagging concerns.

  • No Remorse--knew 100% from the minute we bought this was the right decision.

  • Only remorse was that we should have bought sooner!!!!!

Should've bought in sooner. But waiting made getting and having it much more enjoyable and special.

Low Degree--felt pretty certain DVC was for us, but still had 1 or 2 nagging concerns.
I voted "1 or 2 nagging concerns" - but they were big ones for me: wrong resort and wrong UY year. We tried buying what we wanted (BWV, Dec UY) through resale -- but the deals kept falling through. We finally decided to go through DVC, met with a guide, gave our credit card and waited. After a series of calls from the guide, we gave in to the then not-yet-open SSR instead of BWV ... but were still completely surprised when the contract arrived with the wrong UY (Oct vs Dec). The guide claimed it was a mistake and would be corrected ... but it never was. I held on to resentment over the transaction for at least two years ... but eventually came to embrace both the resort and the UY. We've had no trouble booking what we want (BWV) at 7 months, enjoy the recent changes to banking rules and now find ourselves looking forward to our first SSR stay this December in a Treehouse! :hippie:

It took awhile ... but we now enjoy our DVC decision.

No Remorse

I was a little annoyed when the changed the points charts for the first time in 13 years, 2 weeks after we bought; but I got over it.
We are very excited about our new family vacation tradition.

We had some remorse during our first trip "home". There were a ton of little things that went wrong, culminating on the last day with a purchase on my KTTW card that was rejected, and when I called the resort to find out why, the CM just said "Gee, I just don't know" and proceeded to hang up. It's the only time we ever complained to member satisfaction after a trip. Also, the World Cup was going on, the people in the next room were BIG soccer fans, the games were in the middle of the night, so their partying and yells at the match (think most DHs in front of a football game on TV) woke us up many nights. But what we didn't know then was that every trip after that would be MUCH better....and then we discovered 1 BRs. So no buyers remorse now!
And DH, the "Disney-challenged one" actually bought his first AP last year and wears his DVC jacket proudly!

No remorse for us either.

We didn't even have the "We didn't buy soon enough remorse", because we bought OKW the first month it was available! :rotfl:

Similar to what JimC said, I wish we'd bought sooner, but we bought when the timing was right for us.

NO REMORSE...I do have the "wished I'd bought sooner"...I remember seeing the ads for DVC on my first trip in 1997, BOY I wished I had bought then:sad2:
But as it was said earlier "better late then never"! Shawnpirate:

We bought after a year of debating, and waiting for the Villas at the Grand Californian to finally become available...and the new $$$ incentive ($8 + $8 off per point) sealed the deal.

I had some remorse wishing I had know to split our original contact up into smaller contracts (we bought 225 pt at SSR), but when we did our add on to VGC, my husband said 'why would we sell our SSR contract?' so now I feel much better and can't wait to book VGC, Hawaii, DCL and WDW vacations!

No remorse but I did have a lot of pre signing anxiety. Turning over a check for 10 grand of my hard earned money is not an easy thing to do for me, no matter what it is for.
Never, ever regretted buying. I love each and every day I've spent there.

Our only remorse was wishing we had taken the plunge back in 93. That is our biggest regret...... we waited 14 years but at least we finally did it. :thumbsup2

No remorse here at all!! Can't even be remorseful that I didn't buy sooner as I couldn't!! Bought four months before OKW completed construction so as it was!!

No remorse here, should have like just about everyone else, bought sooner than we did.

Our only remorse was not buying earlier. We had plans on buying when OKW first opened, but when we got back from our trip DH had lost his job and we didn't want to spend that kind of money not knowing how long he would be out of work. He wasn't unemployed long, but it did kind of spook us about spending such a large amount of money for a luxury. After several years of "thinking it over," we decided to take the plunge and have never regretted our purchase.

We had been kicking DVC around for a couple of years, but finally took the plunge with BLT (we love being on the monorail). BLT is the absolute perfect fit for us but had we jumped the gun and bought something other than BLT, we would have been very remorseful. That said, I'm glad we waited until our perfect DVC fit (walking distance to MK and on the monorail). :cool1:

I listed us as having "1 or 2 nagging concerns", and I still have them. Not about DVC, or Disney but about my family. I'm the Disney fan in my family and while my DW and daughters enjoy our vacations, I think they like vacations in general moreso than the excitement of going back to "the World".

My hope is that we will hold on to our contracts long enough to bring grandchildren along, but that is (hopefully) still several years out with my girls in college now.

I also have concerns that Disney may experience down cycles (like now) and cut back on service quality. Since they already have our money, I also have a nagging concern that they won't feel compelled to go to great lengths to keep us satisfied.

But overall, I'm very glad we bought DVC and don't have remorse for having done so. :)

we purchased ssr first and bwv second. we were not as familiar with the other resorts at the time we purchased and should have done more homework. there is nothing at all wronge with those 2 resorts but they turned out not to be the ones we just fell in love with.;)

we sold ssr and bwv and purchased vwl. we then purchased akv as soon as it went up for sale to dvc owners. we have now purchased blt and think we will love it as much as the other 2.:dance3:

use your pts to stay in other resorts and decide which you like best, then if you are not very happy about your home resort you can resale it and purchase another.

dvc seems to be the only time-share/vacation club that will resale if you need to sale.:woohoo:

the key is----you can hardly go wronge. mistakes are changeable with dvc.:flower3:

I said no remorse, although last night I met another DVC'er in our neighborhood that bought into OKW the second year, and he said that Disney gave them NINE YEARS of free park entrance as a bonus!

:rolleyes1NOW I wish I had known about that!

Thanks for your kind words of encouragement! Enjoy your VWL, AKV and BLT :)
