Buy over the phone or in person?

Are there additional discounts/promotions you can get by taking the DVC tour and buying there, rather than just going ahead and buying over the phone? We're taking a trip in early June and if you get better incentives, we'll definitely wait.

Sometimes there are but not always. And incentives can change at anytime so they could actually be worse in a few months.

The only change that is being touted is that the price for BLT is going up to $140. It was supposed to already, but everything that I have read suggests they are still allowing contracts in at a base price of $130, before incentives.

Good luck!

You almost always can get a better price on a tour, and if you take the tour at WDW you usually get fast passes for the day or other perks besides the discounts on buying then. If you live near New York City or Chicago you can visit their Disney store and tour the model rooms they have there. You will get the tour discount then. They have a special now for buying 160 pts or add on of 150 pts.

I have generally read that the tours are better, however when we did our add on this past February the promotion we got was for telephone sales only. They specfically told me that if I went into the Doorway of Dreams in Woodfield it would't have been as good. Not sure how often that happens and I thought it was unusual, but since I had always planned on adding on over the phone anyway it didn't change anything.

On DVC.com today there were new incentives for adding on but there were for "short trips".

The best discount/promotion is buying resale. Check out the listings at one of the resellers, like TSS, which is a sponsor of these boards. Just click on their banner at the top of the page.

Will they send you some fast passes if you buy over the phone?

No. The FP's are stamped to be good for 3 days from the day they are handed out.

What you probably can do is NEGOTIATE with your guide to make them available to you next time you go and you can just call them and go by SSR and pick them up. Been there. Done that. ;)

We just purchased over the phone yesterday :cloud9: and when we asked the guide if there were any other benefits for us as DVC members at the parks during our upcoming August vacation, he told us that he would have some VIP fastpasses for us when we arrived.

Welcome Saudersceo! I see this was your first post.

Awesome that you will have the VIP fp waiting for you. Nothing like a little extra pixie dust. :thumbsup2

Enjoy your trip! :goodvibes

Most people need to see , touch, feel the units before taking the plunge to buy.

However if you know this is the right choice for you and your family a much more important factor over any extra discounts may be if you would be able to cancel the booking you already have , take the accommodation portion of it and use it as your down payment for your DVC membership. Obviously if your only going for 1 night and staying at a value resort ( $100 ) then any extra incentives might ( almost certainly will) outweigh the cost of the room saving. However if you've got 7 nights in a $300-500 a night room/unit I think that saving would far exceed any extra sweetener you might get for on property. The kicker to all this might be if they can book your dates for this trip as your first DVC trip. If they are still offering an extra years worth of points to join , having this already paid for trip as your first DVC member trip and still getting all of your first years points available to bank or for next year is a huge benefit.

The Guides work for different units. Historically the Telesales Guides have access to fewer promotions. These are Guides who work from home and do business over the phone, not a Guide from the Preview Center who may call you from time to time.

Also keep in mind that you are doing a business transaction. Just because something may be available, doesn't mean that you have it offered to you. If you haven't done your homework and don't know what's available, you will probable get a worse deal than the other guy. When we met with our first Guide he gave us a price. When I asked about a promotion that we had heard about he said, "oh you know about that, yes you can have the better price".

The process is not much different than buying a car.

If you are a serious buyer and buy through a guide over the phone ;), I'm sure that he/she could work the same "magic" of fast passes and hidden resort availability that an on-site guide could. If you are definitely going to buy and you know that the prices are going up, it would not hurt to speak with a guide on the phone and see what they have to offer. I would actually rather buy over the phone so that when we go to the parks, we are already members and already checked in to our resort of choice! That leaves more time to play and less time to stress over the purchase :).

Thanks for all the helpful information. We're staying at the GF on a PIN offer, and it's hard to pass up those prices. It would, however, be nice to use those funds as a down payment, as was suggested. My assumption is that a two bedroom home at BLT will be sold out when we are there (5/31 to 6/5), although it wouldn't hurt to ask.

I couldn't agree more. It makes me sick to think that we paid what we paid to stay in a 1-BR and turned around and bought right after that trip. We could have purchased a few months sooner, taken that same trip, and put all of that money into the purchase price. We got a heck of a deal, too, since we got the room at 25% off.

Best of luck, and wishing you an early party: welcome home!!! party:

P.S., If you are buying direct and work with a guide, make the 2-BR reservation a make or break part of the deal. They may be able to magically make that happen for you.
