Im staying at the AKL in a standard room with sav view. I was wondering if any of you knew if at check in time I could pay extra money to get the concierge service?

I really like the idea of having snacks laid out for me at almost all times of the day. And the free booze is nice too :P

Anyone know how much extra this kind of service would cost?..on top of what I have already paid.

You could ask upon check-in and if there is availability they would let you know what the upgrade charge was. The difference is the rack rates would be the most you'd pay, which is $170 per night. They might ask you to pay that difference, or a smaller amount, but it would most likely be significant, at least $100 per night.

*whistles*

Thats about what I thought. I wasnt sure if it could be done though and I really didnt feel like making an idiot of myself by asking them.

Id sure have to eat alot of snacks and drinks to make that worth our time...hmm

Something to think about anyways , thanks for your help :)

The difference between a deluxe savannah view and concierge was over $2,000 for 2 rooms. I got the deluxe savannah with a disney club discount but they would not give me a club discount on concierge. The disney travel agent said that since I was staying in a deluxe savannah they may be able to up grade me if they were not full on our stay but talked like it would be considerably more. I may ask but decided it would not be worth it just for the food which is all we want. We've already made our own ressies. This was for a 5 night stay. We figured 7 of us, 3 kids who don't eat much, can buy alot of food for that!! We basically eat one set down full meal a day and the rest are fast food or snacks.

Yeah I figured for the two of us to eat in WDW it would be about $100 a day. And now that I Think about it I highly doubt we will take the time to leave one of the parks to head back to the hotel just to eat when there are so many great places to eat in the parks themselves.

Isn't that the truth! My grandchildren don't even want to try new places to eat because they like the ones they ate ate the first time we went to DW. Bascially, Chef Mickey's, Garden Grill, Sci-Fi, Rainforest Cafe. We would of liked to do the castle one morning but you have to plan way in advance for that!! We figured the only eating we would do at concierge would be breakfast and maybe the night snacks but the kids are picky eaters so may not like what's brought up from the African restaurants anyway. I also read that you have to ask for bottled water and that they are very liminted on the wine. For that kind of money, it just wouldn't be worth it!!

Last December I asked at check-in how much it would be to upgrade from a deluxe savannah view (booked with AAA discount) to concierge. It was very reasonable (and we would be in a savannah view [not all concierge is]) so we took it. Since this was post 9/11, I can't guarantee it would be as reasonable today, but it doesn't hurt to ask. The downside was that the sunrise safari was already SO booked that we couldn’t even get on the wait list.

Other than breakfast, the 5-7 PM service and the 8-10 cordials/desserts there aren't many snacks out. As for free booze, they don't put out a lot and don't replinish it often when it runs out.

The appetizers they put out 5-7PM are wonderful though. :)

When they ran out of Baileys, we asked and they brought out another bottle... and even when they were no longer serving wine - just the cordials later on in the evening, if you want a glass of wine they will gladly bring you one. The service there is just awesome!!! The coffee there tastes weak though... even the espresso.

Ewwww Darian! The coffee is weak? I was really looking forward to playing with the fancy coffee machine that I've heard about at AKL Concierge. :( However, we'll still give it a try. I'm sure it will be loads of fun, even if it does't taste the greatest. :)
(Besides, if bad coffee is the worst thing that we're faced with, I'd say I shouldn't whine)

The cost to upgrade from a savannah view room to concierge in August of this year, at check-in, was quoted to me at $140 per night.

We decided not to upgrade at that time as we were paying about $160 per night for the room as it was.

Queenofhearts - Yeah, the espresso & capaccino (excuse the spelling!) weren't very strong, but the flavor was still good. Strangely, the "regular" coffee in the urns was stronger than the "espresso" and boy was it tastey! The fancy machine was still fun to play with. In the morning there are some delightfully odd tasting muffins that I just loved which nicely complement the coffee. You won't be disapointed at all. (except for that watery coffee.)

Oh and don't forget to ASK for bottled water. We got a plastic bottle full now and again. Those plastic bottles weren't available at the YC concierge. Weird.

You are gonna have a blast! Say hey to Donald for me! Wow, just two days away from your trip? We just got back two days ago!
