Buy cheap microwave for in room ?

It's illegal to cook in hotel rooms not specificially designed/coded for cooking. You would be violating fire laws by doing so. Make sure the hotel allows microwaves. I can't imagine that many would allow toasters. All it would take is one burnt toast to set off the smoke alarms for the entire hotel & summoning the fire dept. The hotel has to pay $$ for false alarms.

The broken glass in the carpet may not have been from a drinking glass. It could have been someone's souvenier that was broken, like a snowglobe or picture frame.

But, I've stayed in several hotels that have real glasses. Of those in Orlando, the Swan and the Hard Rock have them. Also, if the hotel offers room service, most likely, your drinks will be served in glasses.

As for fire hazards, I'd bet that there are many more curling irons and clothes irons left on while folks are away from their rooms than the occasional toaster or microwave. That being said, I would still ask the hotel if the cooking appliance is okay to use in the room.

Depending on what time of year you're going, you can rent DVC points for a studio at Old Key West for $80/night (Sunday-Thursday) - or even a bit less if the DVC member really needs to "unload" the points. The studios are HUGE - bigger than rooms I've stayed in at the Poly and Beach Club - and have a microwave, coffee maker and mini fridge. The resort itself is also MUCH nicer than the All Stars - full service restaurant, recreational activities, etc. (I've stayed at the ASMu three times and like it just fine, I'm just using that for a comparison.)
