Buy at SSR to save money

I do think most members are aware of the reservations challenges once the 7 month window kicks, and DVD can sell the idea to purchasers of new resorts- DRR, Reflections, and others coming, that the new restrictions will keep people from buying resale points and then using them at these new resorts. Fewer points with the ability to make reservation at the new resorts, ultimately means less competition for rooms at those resorts.
Yes, except that right now the number of restricted resale points is extremely small compared to everyone (pre-January 19 resale owners and all direct owners) who can and want to trade into RIV. By the time the number of restricted L14 points grows enough to be significant, there will also be a number of restricted RIV points that can’t trade out and limit the number of available rooms. And at the same time, there will be an even greater number of new direct owners adding pressure to the system.

I think you made the point before and I agree with it - that this is more a marketing story than feasible solution.

This is true and don’t disagree. Though if DRR is super popular and eventually reaches this point I assume they could decide to waive the restriction on those that own DRR resale points so that they can trade out. Thus creating some 7 months movements to make future resorts easy to sell (opening rooms at a desirable resort). But then again I only expect something like this to happen if and only if it benefits direct sales. I would never recommend buying based on this type of hypothetical just wanted to highlight that DVC did everything for their benefit even if it benefits members in a tangential way.

The thing they did is set it up so they can waive or sell ways out of the restrictions for individual resorts. Which gets back to the way they could separate future resorts into baskets.
