Hello,

We own at AKL. We bought direct. We were going to add on 50 points. I went online and looked at the resale market and saw the price difference. So, I would like to buy resale. But before I, I want to find out how that works. How does it work having 2 contracts? Can I merge points together to book resort stays? How does it work with different use months. Say one February one October? Is it hard to keep track of 2 contracts? Any information is appreciated

For a 50 point contract you might actually be easier going direct

The first thing to be aware of is if you want to combine points you need to look for the same use year. A different UY will be a new member number and you get into having to transfer points. Between member numbers or link reservations made on different member numbers. Then you need to wait for a small contract to come up in the right UY. Smaller ones so come but they are rare and the savings are smaller.

We have three different Use Years (and thus 3 different Memberships) and had 4 memberships in the past.

Tracking/using points is very easy and the member website now simplifies that even more. While you can transfer points between the memberships, it is just as simple to make reservations using points from both contracts (at 11 months if the Home Resort status is the same) and then have MS link the two together into a seamless reservation without the need to move villas. We have done this many, many times without a problem.

If you can find a resale contract with the number of points you'd like I'd grab it. You might also consider purchasing a resale contract larger than 50 points as those may even more economical.

Good luck with your decision.

My 2 cents. We have 3 separate contracts, 2 at BLT both bought direct and 1 at BCV bought resale, all 3 with the same UY, all under 1 membership #.

At 11 months we can only book BLT or BCV with the points at those resorts. At 7 months it's like 1 big contract and we can combine points however we want. Seamless. It has worked out very well for us and been very easy to keep track of. The same UY means there is only 1 banking deadline. Why make it harder than it needs to be?

Small resale contracts in your UY (or any UY) go very fast and go at a premium. Closing costs might not be worth going this route. Prices are sky high through Disney right now but as an owner you have the option to buy as few as 25 points at a time directly from Disney. You could buy 25 points now and depending on where you are in your UY you could get this years' points and have next year's points available giving you 50 points to use. Then at a later date buy the other 25 points.

When you buy directly from Disney they will give you the same UY and deed it exactly the same as your existing contract.

I have 5 different contracts and 3 membership numbers. I find it easier if all of the same resort has the same use year (thus under the same membership). but if you were to buy a different resort, I think the different membership numbers are beneficial in the event you ever want to transfer points in or out (gives you more flexibility).
