The recipe calls for:

3/4 cup Crisco Butter Shortning

I have regular shortning. It there a substitute?

I would use 3/4 cup of butter in that circumstance. Regular Crisco would work, but it would not have a buttery flavor

I agree with just using butter or margarine instead.

Or you could use the regular shortening and add 1/4 tsp butter flavor, if you have that.

I wouldn't substitute butter for shortening. The cookie would have a different consistency. The regular would work but you wouldn't have as much buttery flavor.

I wouldn't use butter flavored Crisco in anything, that stuff isn't fit to eat. I would use real butter or regular crisco.

We used it one time when I was growing up, we threw the whole batch of cookies away. Tasted like that fake butter stuff in the movie theaters.

I see by looking at reviews that people actually like this stuff. Guess I am in the minority. Tasted way too much like fake butter to me. Oh well. To each their own.

What kind of cookie....

Butter will 'crisp' more than hydrogenated shortening.
But you probably want some butter flavor too....

I think I might use half each...

Yes, this would probably be a crisper ( and thinner) cookie with only butter.

I still think I might try half and half.

Keep us posted!

Not to pass any judgment, but I totally agree with this.
I am picky about what goes into my body.

I agree with you. I used my mom's old sugar cookie recipe. It called for 3/4 cup shortening. I wanted it to be just like the cookies I grew up with, but I just couldn't willingly bake with hydrogenated oils.

So I replaced the shortening with butter and they tasted fantastic. Maybe not exactly like my mom made them, but they were still very good.
