But Rhett! Where Shall I Go? What Shall I do? Frankly, m'dear... a MAY 2010 PTR

So now that we've done the Introductions, the background, and past trips I can tell you all how this little May trip came to be.

Got your snacks? It's a long one!popcorn::

After our sweet little jaunt to Disneyland last MAY---

And While we thought it was great- it just left us wanting more. It was sort of like having an appetizer and then being kicked out of the restaurant. In DL's defense-- being that it was tacked on to a work related trip for DH, he never really felt like he could decompress and enjoy the parks.

So after the summer trips had come and gone and sunburns had faded and the kids were back in school, I started looking ahead to the Spring and what I should plan.

DH and I usually go somewhere for a week in May, just us, to be together as a couple. We actually talked about vacationing for our Anniversary in March, but since my DH is known for deciding at the last minute he wants to go on vacation, I decided that keeping tradition alive and traveling in MAY would be the best option.

I KNEW pin codes were coming- I just wasn't sure when.
I decided to check out the website and just fiddle around for a few days.

Then I slowly began hearing that the pin code gods were leaking out pin codes for the Spring.

I got nothing.

I tried praying to the pin code gods- the chant went something like this-

"Oh great and Mighty pin code gods, I beesech thee to bestow upon thou the highest honor of pin code-ation and honor thou with your presence. ohmmmmmmmm."
(of course I logged onto the wdw website and saved trips to POFQ, WL, and the Poly also, just in case the pin code gods weren't listening.)

I got nothing.

I tried again...
"Oh great and mighty pin code gods, I beseech thee..."

Nothing.

Weeks passed.

The Holidays were on the horizon-- Halloween was a week away.
I started to get panicky-people were starting threads with cutesy titles like
"Pin code 40% off- I'm going back!!!" and "Got a code-- I'm off to see the MOUSE!" I was beyoind irritated.

I tried a Teeny tiny bit different approach--

"DAM&^% Pin code gods! Give me a %^*&%%$#@ pin code right &*%$%## NOW!!!"
and then I did the unthinkable--- I erased all of my saved offers.

That oughta do it, I thought.

Stilll......... nothing.

So I crawled back , head held low, tiptoed to the website and saved just one offer. The Poly.

My plea-- "PLEASE pin code gods...???"

Nothing.

It wasn't going to happen.
I resigned myself to the fact and actually began looking into going to different places. DH told me to pick anywhere, he'd take me. I was pitiful. I wanted to see the mouse. I wanted to dance on Main street. I wanted to lie in the hammock and watch Wishes over the castle.

I wanted to smell the monorail.... ewwwww, but yeah, okay- I confess- I like it.
I didn't go back to the WDW website. It was too painful. I couldn't bear to look.

And then on Monday, November 16 at 5:03 pm- It happened:
An email from Disney Destinations.

My heart thudded in my chest- could it be? I tried to calm my blood pressure as I logged on to see the title "Explore your resort picks, _______ family!"
I could barely click on it. And there it was --
"Alleluia!!! Allleluia!!!!!!"
Alleluia chorus was pounding in my head and, like any good Southern Baptist, I jumped out of my seat to stand for the processional!

It was for 40% off deluxes, 30% off of mods and 25% off values. :wizard: I'd been pixed dusted all over.
I could barely walk down the stairs to make supper and pretend nothing was going on.
DH came home from work, tired, exhausted, spent. I tried sharing with him our good fortune.
And he said "Hum, wow, that's good. What's for supper?"

THAT'S IT???????

No screaming with excitement????? No "Book it now, book it now, for the love of all that's holy, call now?!!!"

:confused3:scared1::confused3

I was crushed.
I had prayed to the gods and my Baptist soul needed to repent. I moved my email over to one of my folders. And I didn't. do. anything.

I waited. Oh how I waited. Every day I waited for an opportunity for him to show signs of cracking. We had Turkey day at our house- decorated for Christmas.
And as we were having coffee one morning, he did it. He showed me a weakness and I pounced. All he had to do was say "I need a vacation"- that was it. It was all over.

I told him that I couldn't help him immediately but that I could go ahead and book our MAY trip. He said "Oh yeah, where are we going?" and I said "to Disney". He laughed and said "I told you I'd take you anywhere and you want to go back?" I nodded.

He said "Alright, book it." And as he was getting in the car for work, he walked back over and said "Wait, where are we staying there?" and I said "What about the Poly?" and he said "Book 'em Danno."

The Alleluia chorus was playing again.
I waved goodbye and grabbed the phone and dialed with unbridled passion.

A CM named Otis came to my rescue. I told him breathlessly-"MyhusbandsaidIcouldbbokourMAYtripandIhaveacodeandwe'recelebratingourlateAnniversarycanwegetpinsandjunk?"

:woohoo:

Otis took my pin code and put me on hold. Not a good sign. He came back and said there was something wrong with the code. He asked me to read to him the dates it was good for-- hello? it was good for almost all of 2010! What is wrong? he put me on hold again.

Not good. Sooooo not good.
He comes back and says I have another Pincode that the computer keeps bumping me to but it ends in 2009.

2010!!!! I yell. 20- freaking-10 I say. I am a mess. I start to cry. he says hold on.

He comes back, saying that he's calling a manager, that he doesn't think that code will work. I sob.

I mutter things that are completely inaudible and consider lying in a fetal position on the floor, ala Jim Bakker.
Otis returns.
He says he's three way calling someone else, he'll be back but it isn't looking too good.
I waited another 2 tear stained minutes before he comes back--
"Good news, Ms! We got it to work and you're all set!!!!"

If he had've been there in front of me, I would've let Beau Gator lick him- 'cause i'm just not that into kissing guys I don't know.

Thank YOU, OTIS! You're my hero for the day!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Soooo- all of that to post what we got---

The Poly, garden view, 7 days, park hoppers no dining for $2646.
Not too bad.

:goodvibes

And with that, I leave you.
Up next is... I don't know? We'll have to see!:wizard:

Hope all is well in your corner of the world today!

Jo - it's so nice to finally "see" you ! I have to say you're looking much younger than 29! You need to reveal your secrets!
Your children are beautiful as well! I do not envy you having to tell them they're not going...
Regarding bribery, I tried to convince dd to ride some of her not so favorites with $$$, her response " Mom, you'd trade your daughters own well being for money?!" My own daughter completely guilted me out!

Ok back to my packing frenzy!
:laundy:

speechless-smiley-003.gif
Hi!!!!!! Okay- um let's see, my secrets to looking 29 when you're really 89.... :3dglasses
coffee. Lots of coffee.

So sorry your bribe didn't work on your little precious. Perhaps money AND new mouse ears???? Maybe??? She's a tough one, that one! Hope you're packing is going well. You are what we call a planner packer. I happen to be a Procrastinator Packer-- must wait till the day of.:goodvibes I'm sure your trip starts off to a much better, calmer start than mine.:lmao:

:wave2: I'm also joining in from Shelly's TR.
Can't wait to hear what happens when you tell the kids! I'd love to take a trip without the kids some day...and maybe leave DH with them :rolleyes1
Hi! Welcome to my PTR! Hope you brought some snacks along. It tends to get wordy.:goodvibes We have been on many WDW trips without the kids. It's a whole different place without them there. You see things you've never seen before. But yeah-- like you, I'd love to go alone once! That will NEVER happen.:)

 Nab o o b - I love it!!! :lmao: I think I might start calling it that from now on.

Except I was wrong - it's not Nabob, it's Maxwell House coffee. Here's a link (hopefully it works) to what I bring: http://www.kraftbrands.com/MaxwellHouseCoffee/our-brews/Convenience/Pages/Filter-Packs.aspx

It's not the coffee I would choose to use at home, but it works for Disney (and other hotels that brew yucky coffee).

The only good coffee I've found so far is in the Animal Kingdom near the Safaris, across from the gift shop. But I haven't searched around that much so I'm sure you've found better places.
Oooh- thanks for the tip!
I have never been to that coffee place in AK- we always stop outside the park there and get it from Geoffrey's stand. It's okay. There is a place in DHS called the Writers Stop and it's pretty "Okay". I'm looking forward to a pot of the kona at the Poly.:cloud9: DH and i talk about it every morning.:rotfl2:

I had a good laugh at this, as a Canadian drinking Nab -o-o-b :lmao:

I'll have to try a AK Safari coffee. For me anything other than Timmies is ick! Even the stuff I make at home, must be the 22% cream they use!

oooh--- that sounds so yummy. I think I need a cup of coffee now!! :goodvibes What is timmies?? Is it like a Starbucks?

:scared1: :scared1: :scared1:

WHY!??!!? Am I always the last one to find the MAYer :snooty: reports!!?!?!

I'm here!! I'm here!!

Let the festivities commence.

Another great update!! :cool1: Have you had much coffee today? ;)

I just looked back and I received my PIN on November 23rd and then again on the 25th. And guess what??? I got another one yesterday!! This one is different though -- it's not the 20, 30, 40 % off for all of 2010. It's book 3 nights, get a 4th night free plus a $300 gift card -- good for 8/15/10 - 10/02/10. Guess they think I should come sooner that November. :confused3:rotfl:

I forgot you went through such trauma when booking. :sad2: Glad Otis got it all worked out for you and you didn't have to give him a little attitude adjustment!!:laughing:

So are you thinking about adding on the DDP or are you definitely going to pay OOP?

Have you tried the coffee at the Poly? I don't drink coffee, but DH really liked it at Kona.

oooh--- that sounds so yummy. I think I need a cup of coffee now!! :goodvibes What is timmies?? Is it like a Starbucks?

Timmie's is Tim Horton's - just the GREATEST coffee and donut chain in the WORLD. It would be more along the lines of a Dunkin' Donuts than a Starbucks. It's the birthplace of the "Double-Double" (two cream, two sugars). No need to say the word coffee - just walk up and say "I'd like a large double-double, please". My perfect coffee is a large double-double with milk instead of cream :lovestruc.

Tim Horton's is also known as Timmie's, Tim's, Timmy Ho's and I'm sure there's other variations. I'm lucky because there's one in the lobby of my office building. :surfweb:

Here's a website so you can learn more about Tim Horton's: http://www.timhortons.com/ca/en/index.html

Wow! What a pin code trauma/drama! I got one shortly after we got back from our Dec trip and just got another one yesterday!!
Next time I'm in Canada or wherever else they have them, I'm going to have to check out Timmie's!!

The Tim Horton's are slowly moving into the US. They have them in NY State-and I thought they were spreading further - I guess not. You'll just have to come visit. We keep saying they need to have one in Epcot - Canada!

A Canadian friend told me just yesterday that they've opened one in Norfolk, VA.

I came out successful of my packing frenzy
I am a planned packer - I admit it, I have rewritten list after list after list

Even with accuweather it is hard to predict what to pack

:beach::umbrella: :cold::sunny:

So I am leaving in less than 24 hours

Will there be an update popcorn::

HEY i'm in.... you see RF you aren't the last MAYer to find it... I was..... But i love it can't wait to hear more......

Jo - great start i love when you tell stories... YAY this means once the PTR is done you'll move on to TR???? LOL

"If he had've been there in front of me, I would've let Beau Gator lick him- 'cause i'm just not that into kissing guys I don't know.

Thank YOU, OTIS! You're my hero for the day!!!!!!!!!!!!!"
Hi-
I have 'lurked' on the boards for a while and normally just read the trip reports but when I saw Otis's name I just had to post. He must be on a roll - he was our hero last week. I had received a pin code for DL but we had booked the Poly so it did not really help (but thanks for trying disney ) So I called to see if I had any other pins and who did I talk to - none other then Otis and he found me a code that was 40% off for our trip :woohoo: Wow I think that is the most I have posted ever. I am enjoying your pre-trip and looking forward to it unfolding.

Good Morning my Faithful readers!
:goodvibes

We had a late morning over here. DH took Drew to a Basketball game last night-- and being the sweet and/or bad Mom (-depends on your view- I'll take it:rotfl:)----- I let him sleep in late and THEN go to school.:rolleyes1

Anything for our Gators.:cloud9:

Hope all is well with all of you! I am so thankful to have readers- and I'm wanting to get to know each of you a bit more.:surfweb:

WHY!??!!? Am I always the last one to find the MAYer :snooty: reports!!?!?!

yay- RF's here! You are not last to show up. I'm still missing some bright shining :snooty: faces, but I will refrain from pointing fingers and naming names.:rolleyes1
Glad you're here. At least I know you can read the long BEHIND posts from work- the pics, not so much.

Another great update!! :cool1: Have you had much coffee today? ;)

:dance3: <------ my coffee dance. Yes, too much coffee. I've been wondering why I've been so jacked every morning. One- b/c we switched to this Guatemalan coffee (Mari-- where are you??????????) that is strong but good, and two- I've been drinking it out of a PGH Starbucks mug. Well, the mug is wonderful- but big. I've been saying to DH- "I've only had two cups of coffee today and get I'm shaking like a leaf." So he gets a normal sized mug out and measures against my jumbo mug. THE THING HOLDS TWO AND A HALF CUPS OF COFFEE! So instead of my regualar two cups every morning- I'm gettting five.:dance3::dance3::dance3::dance3: Can you say overload?

The Kona coffee is yummy. I love Kona coffee- the stuff from Hawaii. But it is so dang expensive.

Um- let's seee- oh yeah- Otis. He was our hero, I needed to get something out of him, so I tried the tears first. Next was coming the bazooka if he couldn't come thru for me.;)I forgot you'd heard about my tale of woe. I remember clearly now you saying "WHEREAREYOUDIDYOUBOOKYET???" ..... Pusher/Pushees.....;)
:cheer2:

I've decided not to do the dining plan. I'll share all of my ADR's soon, but I don't think we're eating at enough restaurants for it.

Okay- I've heard of tim Hortons- never had any before though. SOunds like I'd love a double double with all the fat grams they could slap in the cup.:rotfl: Thanks for the info. I'd love to get one near me.

Wow! What a pin code trauma/drama! I got one shortly after we got back from our Dec trip and just got another one yesterday!!

Ooh one in Canada would be wonderful! I'd get me a cup then walk around to the backside by the waterfall to just relax. Sounds great.:cloud9:

Great price for all of that:eek: Usually jsut a room at the Poly would be that much!
Thanks-- I did look at rack rate for that and it was $4003. So- saving over $1300. Not a bad thing at all.;)
