Of course my work schedules me, the youngest employee, with the longest shift on christmas. 10 minutes short of 9 hours. I'm kinda upset. Like i wouldn't have minded a 4 hour shift or something but i'm working from 9:30 until 5:15. Over all in 4 days i'm working over 25 hours. So i'm pretty much kinda ticked as i was wanting to spend time with my family on christmas...

Oh wow, Im sorry to hear that. Where do you work that is actually open on christmas?

yeah that sucks. i really feel for ya!
you work at a movie theatre right?
i used to work at one as well and they were open 365 days a yr.
i never had to work on christmas or new yrs thank goodness, but alot of people did and were getting 6-9 hour shifts, so it's not like they could have christmas in the morning and go to work or go to work and come home for christmas dinner. it sucks and i really dont think its right.
a movie theatre is not an essential service and really doesn't need to be open on christmas--people will understand if it's not!!

that's one reason i'm glad i don't work at the theatre anymore...the place i work now is closes early christmas eve and on christmas day so im safe. but boxing days gonna be mental! ahaha

I had to work on Christmas my first year at my job. It sucked. It was closing shift, so it was dead all night and it was pointless for me to even be there.

A good thing to focus on is the extra money you are making. I got time and a half for working on Christmas, and that was a lot of extra money I made in one night.

Sorry you have to work. :/

Woah, I'd be angry. I'd be talking to the boss and persuading them to change my schedule, or I just wouldn't show up. If you do work at a theatre, there's no reason why someone would be going there on Christmas.

Haha I actually know A LOT of people who go to see movies on christmas. Thats why a lot of movies come out on christmas day.

I am so glad where I work is closed on christmas or else I know for sure I would be working on it. I am working christmas eve, which is bigger in my family, and it sucks. & 9 hours is a long shift to begin with, but maybe you will get to go home early. I don't know how old you are, but here if you are under 18 you are required to have a break every four hours. So maybe they will let you go home instead of giving you two breaks.

I'm sorry.
I'd probaby inform my manager that I was not coming and if they were going to fire me over that...
Well then I wouldn't really wanna work for them.

I may or may not ask to work Christmas eve, as I really won't be doing anything at home..

Aw, I know it's not fun to go to work when you'd much rather be doing something else. But just think of all that extra money, you'll probably be making time and a half.

Besides, it might be really slow and that leaves more time to have fun with your co-workers. Also you might ask if you can wear santa hats, and maybe (if you have uniforms) your boss could let you wear jeans and a christmas shirt?

Maybe you guys can make it a big party. Like everyone bring food and you can play dirty santa.

No matter what you should come into work with a positive attitude, because otherwise I can guarantee you your day will be awful. Attitudes have a huge impact. Try and make the best of it.

:)

^^What Jenny says is true.

You might as well have a good time with it.

I hope everything turns out well, and Merry Christmas.

^^Yeah I like those suggestions.
& to the people who say she should just not show up, honestly that is just mean and cruel to her manager/co workers. It causes everyone to work twice as hard, and I bet none of the other people want to be there either. Its one thing if you asked for it off, and you got sceduled anyways, but if you did not specifically ask for it off, its not right to just refuse to come in, you know?

Anyways, go in with a good attitude, and have fun with it. :)

I would ask not to work it.
I wouldn't just not show up.
I hate people who just don't show up.
If you're not going to work, call in sick at least.

I deffiently going to show up as i'm a newbie still. I do get paid time and a half so thats something to look forward to i guess. I just honestly would rather be wrapped in a blanket. I do work at the movies and it is our busiest day of the year. exspecially since we have 5 movies coming out...I guess i'll just make the best of it. And at least i'm working with this cool guy

I would love to do that but we have 60 something employees and only 11 have the day off

I'm probably going to end up working Christmas Eve. Open to close.

But that's not that much. The place I work is only open 11-4.

Christmas Eve we're open like 9-5. I think.
Which isn't bad, I wouldn't mind it.

we are open 10-until 2 the next morning...

I work from 9:30 in the morning until 5:15

Yeah I know a bunch of people who go during the day.

Technically if everywheres else is closed it should be too, but because it's a great day to make money, they stay open.
I personally don't enjoy going to theatres on holidays, it makes me feel bad lol.

Awww, I'm so sorry.

But my dad has to work christmas this year and he is totally devistated.

You do what you gotta do, and I'm sure alot of us will be in your shoes in years to come.
