We got to DLR around 11am this morning and it seemed like a typical sunday (except for the multitude of fancy-dressing goth type people roaming the park). But after lunch it was sort of crazy. The line at Taste Pilot's Grill was really long but we had never been there before so I don't know what the line usually looks like. I decided to go find a seat and start feeding DS (he has special food he has to eat) while DH waited in line. It took DH about 30 minutes to get our food. And when we were done eating around 1:30, the line was even longer! After lunch we left DCA to go back over to DL and we noticed that the line to get into DCA seemed a lot longer than it usually is. Not sure if that was because of the food and wine festival but that was my guess. The line to get into DL was much, much shorter so we thought that was a good sign. But when we got in, the wait times board said that HM, space mountain and splash mountain were temporarily closed. We decided to go do Pirates but when we got there it was closed too! And there was a mob of people in that area which I know isn't unusual but still sort of surprised me since it seemed worse than it did when we went during spring break. The golden zephyr at DCA was also closed. So after we saw so many rides closed we decided it must be time to leave. Actually, it was about that time that we realized how pooped we were anyway so I guess it really was time for us to go.

Anyone know why there were so many rides closed today? It just seemed really odd that so many big rides were down at the same time.

Yikes. How crazy.

I'm sure it being Bats Day weekend and with the Food and Wine didn't help with the crowds. There was some kind of high school convention this weekend too.

But I have no idea why all the rides were closed!

I was just wondering how your DLR day went and if the big goth thing made it more crowded. Bad luck about all the rides. :sad2: Maybe they just all happen to break down? :confused3

It was more crazy than I thought it would be but it still seemed managable. It's always harder when we have DS with us though. I think if it was just DH and I then it wouldn't have seemed as bad. But you know how you come through adventureland or through frontierland and you get to the open area at NOS in front of ROA? Sometimes it seems pretty empty and other times you just see this sea of heads bobbing around as far as the eye can see. I always seem to gauge how crowded the park is by how dense the people seem in that area.

Also, we were walking back to the parking garage and there was a long line of cars backed up on Disney Way (?) going away from the parking garage. I don't mean that they were leaving the parking garage but they were coming from that direction, i guess from Ball Rd. I'm not sure where they were headed but thought maybe it was people trying to park in the DTD lot or something? I'm not sure.

I was wondering if it was Bats Day but since I hadn't seen anything about it here lately I wasn't sure. It was kind of fun seeing all the different outfits. A lot of people had fancy suits and dresses and we saw a lot of parasols and a lot of top hats. Didn't seem very comfy for walking around in the heat but it was interesting to look at.

Yeah, the ones listed on the wait times board said they would be open later that day so they must have just needed quick fixes. We were also waiting in line for Mr. Toad and they were sending through a bunch of cars with no one on them so we wondered if they were going to close that one too but they didn't while we were there.

But we had fun and we were able to get in several fantasyland rides fairly quickly in the morning thanks to mechurchlady who invited us to tag along with her through the handicapped entrances. We had wanted to take DS on Alice in Wonderland and Mr. Toad but the waits are always so long and he does't always do very well in lines longer than about 10-15 min so we were thankful for the opportunity and it was fun to meet a dis-er in person.

Were they closed as in, not open for the day, or closed as in, not working at the moment and closed until back up and running again? Sometimes it seems like the "rains it pours" law can hit ride downages.

We saw some very creatively dressed guests the other day. It was a while before we even realized it was Goth Days, we just thought people were being eccentric (which I guess is true, too).:goodvibes

The only ones we actually saw were Pirates and the Golden Zephyr and both were totally closed and weren't letting anyone in. The others rides we only saw on the time board that they were closed and it said something like "temporarily closed, will be back up later today".

We were just thinking that the bat day people were probably pretty bummed that haunted mansion was closed. But maybe it was open earlier in the day.

Opps I meant to post earlier in the week that it was in fact Bat's Day, but I forgot  Of course partially it's because I skipped this years event. Now I am curious how many people actually went?? It seems like lots of goths went to the Renaissance Faire instead this year. :lol

I sure hope that the HM opened later since they have a tradition of doing photos at the mansion and a head count. Extra sucky if POTC was down which wouldmake the best second option. :(

It stinks that it was warm with lots of closures today, hopefully the rest of the week looks up, I am hoping if I am over this silly cough I can make it myself to the parks.

I was there also on Sunday and the line to park was very long. I got to DL about 11 and all the rides were up except splash mountian at that time. There was alot of goth ppl and I was curious what was the occasion, i guess I now know what it was. There were actually I am guessing a hundred or so goth ppl sitting and standing next to each other in front of the castle and taking a big portrait picture which look pretty cool being how many there were.

I wanted to get you a dole whip an I ditched you as I had to head to the bathroom. If I had known you were back in Disneyland I would have helped you some more. Disabled lines can be long like on Splash and are mainstreamed at Bobsleds. Glad to meet such a sweet boy.

I got to DCA and not bad but the lady's room had a line out the door and I was hurting literally to go but got my ECV on top speed and got over to my version of torture. I am in the bathroom stall when the noise started. A high pitched top volume screaming kid that was reverberating the building. The mommy was politely telling the kid to not kick her the that they were going home. I forgot about the bathroom over on the far east side and could only think of another long drive to Condor Flats or the long line at the exit area or go back to Disneyland.

I went outside as quick as I could and sat down in my ECV.I find the aspirins and pop 5 of them. I am sitting there with my face in my hands. So guest who decides to park right opposite me and almost block the bathroom entrance. Mommy who has to talk to the kids. I so wanted to slap her up side the head with a parenting book. Do not let your kids get so tired that they are brats. Do not argue with the kids. If the kid is not special needs then shove some candy in its mouth so other guests do not have to listen to your kid screaming and puncturing ear drums. Do not let kids get tires, kick you then stand there are poor baby the kid and feel sorry for them being tired.

I had a great day but had to charge the batteries a bit to make sure I got home. I got to meet a really nice group of people and had fun. It was ok except never let men drive as we found out in Alice when the dudes up front got us in trouble with the queen, lol. It worked out a they got their own ride vehicle on each of those except for Alice which I got to sit next to a peachy keen young lady.

Yeah, it was a last minute decision to go back over to DL. We were hot and thought it would be nice to go on Pirates or HM in the nice air conditioned buildings but when we saw they were closed we realized how tired we were and decided to go home. Well, first we had to stop at Haagan Dazs and get a little something to revive us. But then we went home.

Wow, I understand that child bothered you but please forgive me for my reply. That isn't always the case, as a child can go from smiling and happy to devil child in mere moments. Also...disneyland is filled with children, some not so happy. I guess I just got severely irked by your post and will stop before I say something I shouldn't.

Yikes, I'm glad we were there LAST Sunday instead of this one then. Honestly it was pretty busy last week too. I've come to realize that the days of low crowds are pretty much gone at DL, at least the way we used to enjoy it.

We mainly just had Pirates down last week (although we were happy to ride it a few times on Sunday). That alone though puts a lot of people in lines for the other rides. So having that many rides down, geesh!

Yeah I understand this. But it's how the parents deal with the situation that counts. While waiting for our table at GK, I repeatedly got KICKED by this 3 year old, who was upset because his Mommy took his seat on the bench. Placing him next to his Dad, and ME. Rather then take the child outside, he was throwing a full blown tantrum right there. A nice quiet "Please don't do that sweety" just doesn't always cut it, and no way did my son act like that at 3 years old. I can't imagine letting a child kick a stranger repeatedly without removing them from the situation.

After I got kicked enough I got up and went and stood elsewhere. We finally had to say something to them as he was starting to upset my autistic adult brother. As to which they rudely apologized and were thankfully called for their table.

So yes, kids can act out. But as parents we should know how to handle the situation. Not just sit there and do nothing. It's not the kid I get irked at, it's the poor parenting skills that bother me.

I totally understand. But saying we should shove candy in their mouths to shut them up? That bothers me. I dont consider that as a great parenting skill either. If my kid was kicking I'd remove him from the situation...sometimes it isn't always an option. Oh well.

I average 6 hours sleep a day and have slept about 11 so far and want more sleep. What I posted was when I was tired and hurting not to mention my stress level is very high lately.

It was very uncomfortable for me as I am hypersensitive to some stuff, stressed out, and trapped in the bathroom. If it had been someone sitting next to me at a bench I could have drove off or Ir I was at a restaurant you could have gone to the greeter and asked for my food to go. Instead I was unable to leave and that screaming really was hurtful to the ears and loud.

I feel sorry for the kids. As for slapping mom upside the head, yeah it sounds harsh but it was about noon and her kids were already past the breaking point. The idea is to have fun in the parks and you cannot do that if your kids are kicking you, screaming and fighting you. Instead of having lunch or doing something she was spending time with the kids remedying the fact that her kids were worn out cranky.

At disAbilities long ago was the question about a special needs child and how it threw food. Should mom let the kid feed itself? Some of us came up with the fact that there are other guests and some people could get sick if corn, bread, or margarine landed in our food or drinks. The summation was to do your thing but not at the expense of other guests.

Also I hate hearing parents who do not discipline. "Billy you have the count of three, three ......, two....., one....., Billy I mean it." That bathroom was a woman cajoling her kids and arguing with them over respect for mom and how to behave. I am sorry this upsets so many people and is my vent.

Otherwise I had fun and really like Peach a lot. Good kid and sweet husband. I enjoying helping people and was so glad he could have some fun. Any time you want to meet again just holler.
