First the CHOC Walk on the 17th and now this for October 16th:

The Disneyland Resort will host Anaheim International Film Festival Black-Tie Awards Night Celebration October 16th at Disney's Grand California Hotel & Spa. The red carpet gala honoring film industry icons with Lifetime and Career Achievement Awards for their outstanding body of work and contributions to film will be followed by a VIP showing of "World of Color"

“Filmmaking has always been at the heart of our Company, since Snow White premiered in 1937,” said George A. Kalogridis, president of the Disneyland Resort. “In fact, this important component of our Disney heritage is showcased in our new ‘World of Color’ attraction, which includes scenes from several classic Disney and Pixar films. It is befitting that Disneyland Resort host this celebration of filmmaking and support the inaugural Anaheim International Film Festival.”

Tickets are now on sale for the Awards Night Celebration. Individual tickets are $150, with tables of 10 also available at bronze ($2500), silver ($3000) and gold ($5000) levels with accompanying benefits. To purchase tickets, please call (714) 991-9110 or e-mail awardsgala@anaheimfilm.org. Capacity is limited, and seats will be available on a first-come, first-served basis. Red carpet arrivals begin at 5:30 p.m., followed by dinner and the awards presentation in the Grand Californian’s Sequoia Ballroom. Guests will then be escorted to Disney California Adventure for a showing of “World of Color” at 10:15 p.m.

Ugh that's the weekend I'm going. I was hoping for at least one day of lighter crowds...
but this sounds like it's just going to affect WOC, not the entire park, since the event will be held inside the GCH and not directly in the parks. I think DCA closes at 10 that day anyways so they will be in DCA to see WOC after the park is closed. That shouldn't have an impact on crowds.
& since it is a black tie event, I don't think those people, especially since they are industry icons, will be running around the parks all day. So I still got my hopes up that this won't affect crowds when I'm there! Fingers crossed ;)
Thanks for the info!!

In general it seems busy that week. We are coming over after staying with family the 13-17th and GCH is showing sold out and Hotwire isn't offering very good rates like they usually do. Columbus Day is the weekend before and we are on Spring Break. So, I'm not totally sure about this but it's looking like the parks will be busy. I thought this year we could avoid the crowds since we are coming a different weekend then Gay Day but it looks busy again.:confused3

the 16 is when we arrive in the park...I'm hoping the crowds calm down the following monday...give us at least one day away from the rush of people. At least the 16th and 17th it is open til midnight...i think that is a good thing? Maybe?

We are going that weekend too. Because we are staying in the Grand Californian villas, I had to book at 7 months. When I learned of the CHOC walk, I tried to change, but everything was booked. I guessed wrong it seems, although does anyone think the previous or following weekend will be any better?

We are arriving Saturday and leaving Wednesday so I hope the crowds die down after the weekend.

I agree that the black tie event won't impact the parks, just the 10:15 WOC. I'm planning on doing fireworks and Fantasmic that night, so it won't impact me.

I purchased Ridemax and it is also indicating that Saturday will be busy. Haven't really looked beyond Saturday at Disneyland yet.

We are going the week of the 18th. I'm hoping the crowds will die down during that week also but I'm going prepared for it to be busy so I won't be upset or disappointed if it is really crowded.

dizplanner: I'd be interested to know what ridemax says about crowds past Saturday. Thanks!

I didn't spend any time on it, but it definately looks like a lot lower crowds last Saturday - wait times don't build as quick and lower peak wait times.

The Disneyland website still lists a 10:15 PM WoC for 10/16. It's possible that by "VIP showing" they actually mean the VIPs will get to be in the VIP viewing section. If that's the case, I don't think that will be a very big deal (I don't imagine the VIP area is big enough to bring very many people into the parks). But if they'll actually be running a 10:15 PM WoC for ONLY VIPs, then that might necessitate a 9 PM closing for DCA and that wouldn't be good. :(

Regardless, a lot of AZ schools have fall break during that time, and I think Utah schools might be off for teacher in-services. I'm expecting pretty heavy crowds. :flower3: But we'll still have fun!

I guess it won't be any different than when I normally visit DLR in the summer months!
So it will seem normal for me, but I was kinda looking forward to less intense crowds than summer, but oh well! I am gonna have a great time regardless. :)

Yep, Utah has fall break that week too which is why we're going that week. It seems like October is a windfall of big events that can bring in the crowds (another one I haven't seen mentioned is BlizzCon), but like you said, "we'll still have fun!" I think that's the mindset I've adopted and figure a crowded day at Disney is better than a no-Disney day at all.

We will be there during that week also, and I was hoping for a nice, slow, easy visit to the parks, but it sure doesn't sound like, maybe I actually need to do some planning.

For those of you going during the weekdays as well as weekend of that week i don't think you'll run into as many crowds on mon-thurs but i think fri-sun will be when the crowds are larger. So you should have a few days of lower crowds! For those of us only visiting on Sat & Sun Oct 16-17....get ready to take advantage of FP!! ;)
I'm going into it as "hope for low crowds, but expect large ones" that way if it's a busy day, I'm ready, but if it's less crowded than expected it will be like a bonus :)
