Busted stocking up on Alien Green Mickeys!

I went to the HD in Idaho Falls, Idaho last Sunday and they only had 7 samples of Alien Green. I couldn't help to wonder who else would take the heads other than me? Where are you person in Idaho Falls?

So, I took all the seven and then opened the cabinet underneath and took an entire package of sealed LGMHPC! Never got even a look! Beat that :cool1: :cool1: :cool1:

Well, now, my husband knows a person who works for a hotel, and he told my husband that the hotels are well aware that people take the little bars of soap and bottles of lotion and shampoo home with them, and budget it into the cost for the room. So, help yourself. You're paying for it.

This is why I take food samples in the grocery store. I'm paying for it, so why not eat some. By the way, I liberated 23 LGMHPC's from HD and sent them off to someone in Scotland. Why? Because they posted on here that they wanted some. I was more than happy to accomodate the request.

Hello,

We at HD HQ have been monitoring these boards for some time now after a disgruntled DIS'r notified us of the unauthorized pilfering of our Disney 'paint samples', or as they are known in the industry, Chromatically Reviewable Appearance Pieces.

We have noticed a shortage of these pieces, particularly in the color 'Alien Green' without a corresponding increase in the sales of paint of this shade. As a result of this, Home Depot management has been forced to withdraw orders for Alien Green paint. An unfortunate side affect of this has been the sudden unemployment of an entire village in South America. These villagers were employed by HD for the purpose of collecting the rare Luzanoverde caterpillar; the remarkable hue of Alien Green comes from the addition of these ground up caterpillars.

Although HD is proud to supply these paint samples, it is commonly known and obvious knowledge that members of the general public are entitled to only one (1) sample per family per week. The removal of samples in excess of this amount is a violation of Federal Statute 867-53 section 09 subsection (a). Unfortunately, over the past 8 months, we have seen the removal of 26.8 million of these samples from our stores.

We have developed a database over the past few months with the user names not only of those who have admitted to absconding with our property, but those who have encouraged this behavior by posting to the threads in question. Additionally, our legal council (Legal Depot, Inc.) has subpoenaed the owner/operators of this board to provide the names and IP addresses of all those who have viewed the threads in question.

If you wish to avoid prosecution, you must do the following:
(a) Return any and all Chromatically Reviewable Appearance Pieces to the Home Depot nearest to you
(i) These should be accompanied by a notarized letter detailing the date, time, and number of pieces removed from the store for each infraction.
(ii) These and the accompanying letter should be delivered directly to the store manager.
(b) Remit a rental fee of $1 per month per piece
(c) Submit to 10 hours of Home Depot Community service for each piece.

As previously mentioned, we have been tracking you and know who you are. We shall expect to receive the missing paint samples back by the close of business Monday, November 6, 2006 AD or we will be forced to take further action.

Thank you for your attention to this matter,

The Paint Nazi

P.S. We would also ask that when you visit the drinking fountains in our stores that you limit yourself to no more than 1.5 seconds of fountain water per visit.

The way I see this, if everyone keeps taking tons of the LGMH's home and nobody ever buys the paint, the manufacturers are gonna think the color isn't liked. I can hear the manufactuer going, 'hmm.... everyone takes these samples home and must not like the color when they match it on their walls'. So, for the sake of the free LGMH's somebody needs to paint a room Alien Green. :thumbsup2

Fear not - we have our laundry room painted Alien Green. While I don't know if we covered the cost of all those paint samples (it's a small room) everyone can breathe easier now. :artist:

I cracked up reading this thread days ago...couldn't believe it's still going. The Paint Nazi made it worth coming back to though--too funny!

We never took Alien Green, although DD often stops to grab shades of pink and purple and turquoise that she likes...

Absolutely too funny!!! :rotfl2: :rotfl2: :rotfl: :rotfl2:

I'm glad I didn't read this post before making my monthly HD stop today! I did liberate a few Alien Greens (actually found 3 on the floor! Are they jumping out of their bins to freedom?...or are we just sloppy theives???) But I really wanted some Gamma Sector Greens (who dreams up these names??) I wanted the darker greens to go with the reds for a Christmas chain. SOMEBODY IN SOUTH JERSEY is pilfering Gamma Sector Greens!!!

Our local HD manager told me that if they continue to see a large amount of samples taken and the matching paint not purchased in the same percentage, they are considering dropping the color.

no offense but that is really a stretch :rolleyes2 of the imagination there. :scratchin They do not inventory the paint chips and they do not do any ratios of paint chips taken to paint actually sold. They inventory the paint based upon the actually sales of the paints. If lime green would never get dropped from the line. The whole product line of behr would have to gets dropped it has to do with the amount of the actual paint sold not the amount of the paint chips taken. Those machines they use to mix the paint also inventory the pigment. The gallons of behr base are inventory seperate. What actually makes the paint colors is such a small amount of pigment (color) mixed. It is like a recipe. They would never completely eliminate lime green because it is a formula of several paints. they would have to do away with all of the green and all of the yellow to get rid of this color. In fact if you did not see the lime green color chip anymore if you had an old one you could just bring it to the store and they could look the formula up OR they could do a color match on the machine. In fact at HD I have taken a Glidden paint chip, color matched it on the Behr machine and then made it in Behr paint rather then Glidden. I wonder how much money Glidden loses because of Behr. Now I have really heard it all. :rotfl2:

At the risk of getting flamed and being the party pooper, you guys need to know that Home Depot probably does have to pay for these samples you're taking. My DH is in the same business and he says that usually the paint company will provide the initial display and supply of samples for free but the retail store must pay for refills of the samples. Minimum cost for these samples is usually about 50cents each which can certainly add up. Granted, he does not work for Home Depot so can't say for sure that this applies to them but he has worked for several different companies and this has always been the arrangement with the various paint companies. Love the ideas I've seen on here for decorating with the Mickey heads, tho. I just couldn't take more than a couple myself since I know they most likely do have to pay for them. :guilty:
home depot DOES pay for the paint chips.....it is Behr paint....owned by home depot  so no matter how you look at it....depot is paying for them, whether it is the actual store, or the 'behr company'......but at $25 a gallon and I bought over 50 gallons within the last year(new house) ....I think they get their money back :teeth:

BTW....did anyone notice alot of the home depot in store signs are now lime green? and alot of items are becoming lime green-storage bins, lamps, ets.

Home depot knows the mickey heads are being swiped......they have full time people in their home office that search the internet for stuff like this..... if they were really worried about it...they will charge.
and no they don't inventory the paint chips, but they do know what shades of paint are most popular, it is all computer controlled.

Someone has to pay for those - what you did was steal! You did not take the samples home with the intention of seeing if you liked the color. You never intended to use them for their purpose.

I totally agree, I don't think you can justify this by saying you are not stealing because they are free samples. If they are giving away food samples at the grocery store would you take enough to feed your entire family? Bragging that you are helping your kids steal is just wrong!

If they don't want you to take the paint samples they should not entice you with cool colors and mickey shapes! If you really feel strongly that this is stealing just ask a manager for some and they will probably give them to you. :thumbsup2

Now, now....are you causing trouble AGAIN pbnjrockette?? I can't believe this thread is still going...:rotfl:

Don't make me separate you all:

Official Travel Agents for Guilt Trips on the left...Shameless Paint Chip Thieves to the right, please...if you can't play nice, get out of the sandbox!!!

Oh, and empty your shoes before you leave...no stealing the sand either!!!! :rotfl2:

:teeth: That is funny. Whenever one of the kids wants their room painted, we go and pick out multitudes of colors (at Lowes). They might have 30 different paint strips, ans we decide, because frankly, they just haven't a clue what they want until we get them home.

If they were going to change something about the system, it would be the shape. But they know that licensing brings in the folks. You can get the same colors elsewhere and cheaper.

I was at the HD when the Bher guy was filling up ALL the paint chip samples. He GAVE me & my Mom like 10 LGMHPC's each. He did mention that since he gave us 20 samples, there would probably be no Christmas at his house this year. :rolleyes1
I have hit HD's in 3 counties & 2 states & everytime we go in, there are loads of LGMHPC's. Do people really think anyone is going to believe that HD tracks the sample movement to the paint sales? I think the hours spent on a project like that would cover the cost of some paint chips.
I really like to think that everyone who is on here is kinda the same. But then I read some peoples responses & how they like to stir the proverbial pot & I can't believe that these are the same people with a fanatical love of all things DIS.
Oh well..........................

Lisa

I haven't been reading EVERY single post in this thread - just skimming as they're pretty much the same arguments back and forth, but has anyone explored the fact that maybe, just maybe Home Depot doesn't give a crap how many AGMHPC's are "taken"? Think of the foot traffic that comes in the door...and I know some of you are like me - there's always SOMETHING I pick up when I'm in there. I'm not going to go out of my way just for PC's...I always need something...the PC's would be the only thing keeping me walking into HD instead of Lowe's (which personally I like MUCH better than HD)...
