Do they need to be? I understand the need for gas stations and small grocery stores/drug stores being open for travel and emergencies, but couldn't we live without big stores like Kmart/Walmart (which are open on TGiving Day) and restaurants being open? Mainly, this could be a small vent on my part. I waitress at a nice restaurant which is open on the 4th! I couldn't request off since I just had a long vacation. Will anyone really be dining out on the 4th?
I actually moved over a Thanksgiving weekend and I needed some stuff. Thank God they were open and the store was busy. There are a good number of people, especially in urban areas that really don't do some of the holidays like Thanksgiving, Easter, Christmas, etc.
Shopping or working is preferable.

although we do close at 8:00 PM. How likely is it that someone needs to shop at BRU on the 4th?? It's not like we sell BBQ items or food etc.
No kidding!
