My family of 4 just went to Disney for the first time in May. We had a blast!! Well I just found out that I will be going on a business trip in the beginning of october to Orlando. My boss decided to take advantage of it and bring his family to Disney. I crunched the numbers and with the short amount of time I will have my husband and I decided it wasn't worth it for all of us to go. My boss booked me a room at POP and I have 2 day park tickets. I have to say that I am not really looking forward to doing Disney alone. I have done a little bit of reasearch and know that MNSSHP is the Sunday night that we arrive and that food and wine fest is going on. Any advice on doing Disney solo would be great!!

My schedule is:

Sunday- We arrive in Orlando at 1pm
Monday- I have class from 8-4
Tuesday- Class from 8-1
Wednesday- Class from 8-12. Our flight will leave at 5

Use it as an opportunity to catch a few of the shows that would have been too hectic with the whole family.

It will be much better than you realize. I have spent time at the parks alone and surprisingly, I have had a great time. I wouldn't suggest the Halloween party but the Food and Wine Festival would be fine. Even eating at the restaurants is fine. I am sure you will have a good time!!! :)

Wow.. Id love that! Personally with F and W going on, that's where Id be one of the two days, taking advantage of that.. I agree with taking advantage of shows or attractions that interest you that perhaps you normally don't get to do as much.. Have fun!

would definitely go with food/wine - of course walking around WS w/your spouse - might make you miss him - but you can call him and kind of include him.

Pop is one of my favorite places to stay. it is a value - but it has a lake (standard view) - so ask for a lake view if you can.

the pref view is near to the pools and food court.

I've done solo trips and have one planned Oct. 4-8th following a conference in Orlando.

I'm doing MNSSHP Friday the 4th and will be wearing a costume. I made dining reservations at a couple places we've never been so I could try them out before taking the family.

I love going it alone so I can totally set the pace from commando to smell the roses!

Thanks for the link. Lots of good info!

I'm just curious, why no to the Halloween party? I've been trying to decide if it would be worth it or not. Is it geared more towards families?

I don't have hopper passes. So I was thinking one day at epcot and one day at Magic Kingdom. I might venture out to DTD the Monday night to grab something to eat. The few meals we had a POP while we were there weren't that great :(

I do believe it is more a family event. I attended last year with my son, who was there on business, and was still disappointed. I would not schedule it for me and my husband but maybe if my grandkids were along. Don't want to talk you out of going but I would feel strange attending alone. Just my opinion.

I just realized what time you are arriving on that first day.. I would do MNSSHP.. I've been before with no children and I think you'd have a great time!! The fireworks and parade are wirth the price alone! And of course, Id do F&w on another day!!

This is my first time doing the MNSSHP solo in September. I will try to let you know what I think when I return. Don't feel like you have to do the parks. There are other great things to do like read a book by the pool. Have lunch or dinner at one of the other hotels that you have wanted to try but could not get everyone to agree on.

Get excited!! I absolutely loved my solo trip. I got to do what I wanted, when I wanted, and I didn't have to worry about pleasing anyone else (especially children). I mean I love myself some Jungle Cruise, but if you've done it recently, then it's not something you'll have to do, however, if it happens to be your favorite, you can do it like 5 times in a row and no one to tell you no.
Food and Wine festival is the perfect time of year to go solo. I wish my plans during my solo trip lined up for that, but they didn't. I'll be taking SO during F&W next year, so I'll get to experience that with him before we have kids.
The reason I would want to do MNSSHP is because of the Parade and Fireworks are rumored to be the best around. One thing I found myself doing on my solo trip was taking the time to wait in lines for character meet and greet with characters I wanted a picture with. During the party there are all sort of characters that are not usually out and about I would definitely want to take advantage of (and I can avoid ones that kiddies may love, but I don't really care to get pictures with this time). The fact you've already been to WDW this year, you probably got most of your MK wishes and desires of rides out of the way, so maybe this would interest you? Just keep yourself moving and you are sure to enjoy the party. And the fact this ticket is separate, you can visit a different park during the day and enter MK at 4pm without a park hopper! That way day 2 you can focus on F&W and the adultness that is Epcot

Thanks for the great info! I hadn't even thought about doing another park Sunday then going over to MK for MNSSHP.

Thanks everyone!! I am actually getting very excited about this trip. I mean I would love it to be a family trip, but I'm going to make the most of it. I think I've decided to do Hollywood studios during the day Sunday. When we were there in May my DH got strep throat and stayed in the room for our hollywood studios day. So since it was just me and the kids I feel there is stuff we missed there. After that I'll head to MK for MNSSHP. Then tuesday afternoon I'll go to Epcot for food and wine fest!

I was in WDW last October for a conference and it ended Wednesday at noon and I was alone until my niece flew down on Friday night. Since Epcot Food and Wine was on, I spent an entire day in Epcot wandering around sampling all the wonderful food and 100s of beer (well not all of them but close). Both the Japenese pavillion and German pavillion have restaurants where they will put singles together with other people -- the German is big long tables and an Omh Pah band playing nonstop - Japan the Chef does all the fancy stuff on the cooktop making a show while you wait for your hibatchi food.

The second full day I went to the Animal Kingdom, with my brand new digital camera and did the Safari bus, all of the walking trails and took 100s of pix, I then when and saw the Festival of the Lion King, a parade, and then headed back to the hotel and hung by the pool.

It isn't hard to keep busy.

Tom

BTW, I will be at same conference 10/18-10/22 but myself the entire time.

Since I've only been to Disney once I feel like I still have tons of stuff to see and do! I just feel guilty about going without my kids.

The day we were at Epcot we only got half way through the world showcase. So it will be nice to stroll through at my own pase. And of course I'm looking forward to eating and drinking!! lol!!

And I figured I can't pass up the oppurtunity to do MNSSHP!

You could also take the time to tour the other resorts and not have to use a park ticket for one of the days.

I am going to have October 30th as a solo day and that is my plan! I always wanted to check out the other resorts, we always stay at CBR and I love it but would be fun to try a new one.

Epcot is the best park I think for solo, take your time around WS and try all the F&W booths!!

You will love your solo time!!
