Returned to Detroit today from a little four day trip to Germany and I leave early tomorrow morning for Mexico City for three days.

I do get occasional "fun" trips - Orlando at least once a year for a conference, Vegas in June for a speaking engagement, and they do allow me to live "high on the hog" with my food & entertainment budget. But the bottom line is, I would still rather be home with the wife, my girls, and new four legged monster.

Anybody who believes traveling for business is fun is free to take over my position in life.

I think a balance is nice. I used to be an auditor so I traveled a lot. I left that job for a more 'balanced' job, and now I'm kind of bored. I wouldn't mind traveling a couple times a year.

If you are available for my presentation to DaimlerChrysler HQ in Mexico on Thursday morning at 8 am you are hired.

Taylor,
Do you handle the automobile aspect at DaimlerChrysler or the heavy-duty truck end, i.e. Freightliner?

I don't envy you in the slightest - traveling like you do would wear me out. Well - I lied, I envy the Germany trip part! :)

I work for a company that provides 3D robotic guidance systems to the automotive industry. I am in charge of the North American operation.

So to answer your question, I am involved with all DCX applications including Freightliner (new application in NC).

Don't envy the Germany part. My typical trip is: Airport to hotel to office to dinner to hotel to office to dinner to hotel to office to dinner to hotel to airport. I go to Germany 4 times a year but never see anything - I might as well be in Cleveland (no offense to anybody in Cleveland). The only saving grace for these trips is the fabulous German beer and Italian Grappa.

Well - your job sounds very interesting! But I am no longer envious of your Germany trips! :teeth: ;)

I just got back from a Convention at Disney World! (I snuck in some fun times at the Parks! :thumbsup2 ) But I don't like being away from home - or my family and pets.

Speaking as someone who is on the homefront while her DH goes on many business trips....ITA that it stinks!

I can be tiring, as I type this from a hotel room in Duluth GA.........so far this year I've been to Duluth GA twice, St Paul, Orlando (OK, I will not complain about that one....) and Richmond VA. Home next week and then a week out in Glendale CA.

I am sure that it stinks from your side. But I hope you realize that it also stinks from his side. Many wives think business travel is nothing but fun and games. If I wanted that lifestyle I would have stayed single.

And isn't it the truth that most business destinations (with the exception of conventions) stink?

I am still waiting for them to build an automotive plant in Honolulu or the Bahamas so that I can visit quite often!

Been there, done that for 7 years.. I ran the Latin America/ Far East group for a pharma company.. then one day , I had had it with being gone for months at a time and switched.Thought it would be fun to have groceries in the house and not have a wake up call everyday.. LOL. It was hard to get a company to talk with me, 'cause I had international junkie written all over me.. but finally found a job with donestic usa travel...

I probably wouldn't mind an occasional trip (3-5 times/year maybe) but wouldn't want it to be a monthly thing.

For the last couple of years, I have gone to a computer convention in Boston for 4 days in August. It's a nice convention, very well-done, and the group that goes from my place of employment is generally a nice group of folks to be around, but by day 4, I am ready to go home!

Unfortuneately I see little hope in my ability to stay home consistently.

We are now buying interests in China and possibly Korea.

Just think of all of my frequent flyer miles.....

I love the travel! But I mostly go to tradeshows & conferences and they're in big cities to draw in attendees. No international travel other than Canada, which doesn't really count in my book.

In March & April I will go to:

Las Vegas
Philly
Toronto
Anaheim

Try sitting in an automotive plant in the middle of Mexico for 3 straight days. That is a perfect cure for "the traveling jones".

I really want a job where I can travel! Then again I don't plan on getting married or having kids for a long time...or maybe ever!

there are different kinds of business travel, and I don't do the fun kind. I have a corp card so that limits the places that I stay to a step above sleezey. Last week I started a new 10 hour audio book on Tuesday and finished it on Thrusday afternoon. I would love to have a fun business travel job, but this kind of travel is just dull.....
