Hi all,

next week I finish my class for Substitute Teachers. I will get my certificate at the end of class and will be able to start work within a few days.

I need to make business cards for the teachers to have....includes my name, phone, and email.

One teacher recommended having them laminated and put a magnet on the back so they can put the card on their file cabinet so they'll have my number handy.

I know most of the teachers at the school I will be subbing at, so fingers crossed that I will get called to work a lot.

Some people put quotes, borders or cute "school" clip art on their cards. Some people attach candy....I am not going to do that (simply cannot afford to).
Any suggestions to make the business cards appealing?
Should I just stick to simple facts: name & phone?

thanks in advance.

Why not go to vista print.com and see what they have available right now for free? you will probably have to pay a shipping charge but the cards themselves will be free.
I think you should have your name, contact phone and email and I wouldn't be opposed to some cute clip art on them. Good luck!

Business cards are a great idea, but I wouldn't go to any extra trouble to put magnets on them or anything.

When I was teaching I would keep them in my purse. Sometimes you are at home when you need to call for a sub and having them at school (like in my desk drawer :headache:) did no good.

Also, when you sub for someone, leave your card with the note you leave them and write something on the back. . .like the day you subbed for them, or that you frequently sub for teacher X in their building. . .anything to help them remember who you are. :thumbsup2

Second the "free cards at Vistaprint" motion. Ordered two sets over the years and its a pretty good deal !

Vista Print has a whole section of educator designs. I'd choose something eye-catching and appropriate to the level at which you'll be teaching. They'll also do small (business card sized) magnets using the same design library for around $15 for 50 and their free shipping purchase amount is usually $25 or $30, so if you want the teachers to have magnets it might be worth ordering both cards and the professionally printed magnets.

We use them for both DH's business and my own as well as for some Christmas gifts (photo calendars, mouse pads), and we've been very pleased with their products. I wouldn't recommend the free cards, which have a line of VistaPrint advertising on the back that I think detracts from their professional image, but their "premium" cards and other products are quite nice and their pricing is better than anywhere else I've looked.

My husband and I own a company and we have used vistaprint for 5 years now. I am thrilled with the quality, price and selection offered for their free cards.

If you are a member of mypoints then link there from the mypoints and you will get 300 points!

Also the site tells you the cheapest shipping will take 2-3 weeks ( or something like that) but we always get it Waaaayyyyy sooner than it says.

Also its cheaper to get free cards twice than it is to double an order - although one order of them would probably be enough for your needs for a LONG time.

They have lots of cute images included in the free section, so look around for awhile before you decide, and dont upgrade the paper to a thicker kind, the one you get free is just fine!

Thanks, I'll look at the vistaprint tonight.

I was thinking of simply printing them at home.....I have the blank business cards to print(had them for years) and I was going to use the laminator(sp?) at the school.

I work as a software support/trainer. One of my coworkers hands out business cards with an individually wrapped lifesaver candy stapled to it. It signifies "we're your 'lifesaver.'" A big bag of lifesavers is really cheap and just enough schtick to attract someone's attention and to have them remember you.

Best wishes!

You will spend more on ink and card stock than you will just ordering the cards from Vista Print. Do a google search for discount codes before ordering. I have gotten free glossy, free back side printing, 80% off premium cards, etc. Sometimes all at once. Plus they will look more professional than ones you printed yourself.

Here's some tips: Make sure the font is large enough so people can easily read it - at least 10 or 12 pt. font. A block font is better than a script or cursive font. Do you have a photo of yourself that you could add? (have you noticed most real estate agents have their photo on their card). Maybe add some Disney art for something cute. Add your home phone and cell phone, and email. A white card with black lettering is easy to read.

Years ago, I was waiting in line at Office Max, and they had business-card size magnets at the register. You peel the tape off the top and there is adhesive there, so you stick your business card to it. The back is all magnet.

I liked it because I use them one at a time when I need them. My business card has changed over the years, but I can keep using the magnets until I run out.

I haven't tried to buy them lately, but I assume a business supply store would sell them if you decide you want them.

Staples does same-day business cards if you're in a hurry. Create what you want on your computer, and then bring it in on a flash drive, or print it out and they will scan it for you. They were doing 50% back in Staples rewards earlier this month; I'm not sure if that deal ended.

Based on what one of the PPs said, I would give several to each person (one for them to take home and one to leave at school).
