Bush won't rule out nuclear stike on Iran...

Don't you think abandoning Israel would be "cruel" as you accused the USA's foreign policy in an early post.

Why don't the "Arabs" just leave Israel alone?? Isn't that the REAL problem??

OMG! I am agreeing with Joe! Has hell frozen over?

Right, left, or middle, we can all spot an idiot.

Listen, if you all want your kids over fighting for the Israelis, by all means, go for it. Move over there and join the Israeli military. But you have no right to drag the rest of us who don't care who controls Palestine into your mess.

The land doesn't belong to Israel; it's stolen. It doesn't matter how many years they manage to keep their claws in it, it is not rightfully their land.

Wrong again! You are batting zero!

Well, when the name calling starts, that's pretty much a confession of failure. Looks like I won again.

You are not even in the race.

Well, I offer facts, and the coin of the realm here seems to be jingoism, cliches, and excuses, so you're right, maybe I'm not in the race.

No, the real problem is that the Zionists stole the Arabs' land and drove out about 700,000 of them at gunpoint. The Arabs aren't going to forget it, nor let us forget it as long as there is a siphon of our money landing in Israel's treasury.

OK. I'll bite. Is this one of the "facts" you supposedly offer? Anything to back this up?

I didn't read the rest of the thread. But my thinking is why the heck didn't we drop a big one on pakistan or wherever bin ladin was hiding out after 9/11?

Because we have at least SOME morals! Great, let's wipe out the whole country to try and kill one man. :confused3 Bad, horrible idea. In the grand scheme of day-to-day life killing Osama is NOT that important IMO. The world would be better off without any nukes if you ask me

I took my DD7 to the air and space museum today. They have a pershing missle and a USSR missle (SS-20?) on exhibit. I was was explaining to her about the cold war and the misles pointed at US and USSR. She asked who won and I said, "I guess neither side did" when a woman standing next to me said "No. We all won!"

Oh now that's rich. :lmao:

lw10933, its sounds to me like you've got you turbin wrapped to tight around your head. Walk towards the light and come back to reality where the rest of us live! :thumbsup2

We couldn't just go and bomb on where ever Osama was, because, 1. We weren't for sure where he was and 2. The nuclear fallout would spread throughout the Middle East and the world's WMD's would be pointed at us. No one wins in a nuclear strike.

I can see this Israel thing culminating into a pretty big stance in future elections. I don't see why we go and give up one of our few allies in the Middle East. But I can see LW saying " Bu. . . But then we will gain mo. . . more allies there. " Wrong! If they hate us so much for allying ourselves with Israel, they will still hold a grudge, and will probably still consider us allies with Israel. Or they will come up with another excuse for hating us, most likely being our western infidel ways.

Next time we need to defend ourselves, we will be sure to look at the European polls. Truly laughable since most of Europe has proven that it can't defend itself. In fact, the French finally found someone they could defeat, The French. No, they just "surrender" to the mob in the streets. The retreat at Gitmo provides a lot more amenities than anything that the terrorists would find in their own countries.

There is soo much missplaced testosterone in that statement. The USA did not single handedly ended WW2 and did not single handedly bring down the Berlin wall. My great uncle , who lost a leg during that war when his plane was shot down over Germany ( and was rescued by german people by the way) would starngle you if you would say that to his face. He was in the canadian air force and was decorated withLegion of Honor in France for his sacrifice, and trust me , they give those lightly.

At least , in France , when the governement does something deemed bad for the population , the people go out in the street to protest ! Not like us in North-America ( I include my country in there) where if I still can watch American Idol , eat my MacDonalds , and shop at my walmart , I only get outrage in front of my computer. ( I even include myself in that last statement !)

You have to stop beliving the USA lives in a vacuum. A

I'm not sure what you mean by that statement. We do protest.
Lot's of us walk the walk, not just talk the talk. :)

Anyone seriously interested in this case beyond soundbite Foxlike reasoning should read Seymour Hersh's piece in the New Yorker two weeks ago and Fallows' piece in the Atlantic Monthly last year. We are in a hell of a dilemma, and our options got worse because of the foolish policy choices made the last few years. That said, the nuclear option really would be crazy and even talking about it is not smart. But this isn't just a response to a query, it's a planned statement intended to get a result. And so far, like so much else this Administration does, it looks like a gross miscalculation. We don't have a lot of good options, but we seem intent on making the situation worse

I know , I was one of many , many thousands of people walking in the streets of Montréal to protest the war. But we almost never see major protests over governement policies

I was about to say the same thing. Israel is a loyal friend. We should try to maintain an honest broker status and tell our friend when we think they are wrong, but to suggest that our friendship with Israel is the source of our difficulties is so misguided. Plus its immoral
